CHL all-stars earn victory over Russia after shootout decides winner

Team QMJHL defeats Team Russia in a shootout, lead by goaltender Samuel Harvey, wrapping up the CIBC Canada Russia Series in favour of the CHL.

MONCTON, N.B. – Maxime Comtois scored the shootout winner as a team of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League all-stars secured the Canadian Hockey League a Super Series victory over Russia on Thursday night.

Vitalii Abramov had scored the winner to lift Russia over the QMJHL 2-1, which tied the Super Series at three games apiece. A shootout was needed to determine the winner of the series featuring two games between Russia and each of the CHL’s three leagues.

Alexey Polodyan opened the scoring for the Russians and Alexey Melnichuk stopped 23 shots for the win in net.

Pascal Laberge tied the game at 1-1 midway through the second period for the QMJHL. Samuel Harvey made 31 saves in defeat.

Russia was scoreless on three power plays and the QMJHL was 0 for 4.
