Comtois nets OT winner, Canada Red downs Russia

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Maxime Comtois scored the winner 1:06 into overtime and added two assists as Canada Red edged Russia 4-3 on Tuesday to secure top spot in Group B heading into the quarter-finals at the under-17 world hockey challenge.

Brett Neumann, Jordan Bellerive and Joel Teasdale also scored for Canada Red (3-0-0), which will face Canada Black (1-2-0) in the quarters on Thursday.

Kyle Jessiman made 27 saves for the victory.

Klim Kostin, Ivan Chekhovich and Dmitri Samorukov supplied the offence for Russia (1-2-0), which got a 33-save outing from Maxim Zhukov.

Canada Red went 2 for 5 on the power play while Russia failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

In other round-robin play, Brady Tkachuk had two goals and an assist and Scott Reedy scored once and set up two more as the United States hammered Canada Black 6-1 to finish atop Group A.

Also, Nick Suzuki had a goal and an assist as Canada White fell 3-2 to the Czech Republic, while Eeli Tolvanen scored four times and set up one more to lead Finland to a 6-3 win over Sweden.

The Americans (3-0-0) play Sweden (0-3-0), Finland (2-1-0) is up against Canada White (1-2-0) and the Czechs (1-2-0) go at it against Russia in the other quarter-final matchups.
