Erie Otters star Connor McDavid suffered an injury to his right hand during Tuesday’s game against the Mississauga Steelheads after a fight with Bryson Cianfrone.
The extent of the injury is currently unknown, however the team announced in a statement that McDavid is listed as “out indefinitely.” McDavid was transported to a local hospital to undergo x-rays and the 17-year-old will visit with a hand specialist in Toronto Wednesday.
As the two players were exchanging punches, McDavid’s right hand appeared to make contact with the edge of the boards near the glass. He was seen favouring his right hand as he headed to the penalty box before going to the locker room.
McDavid and Cianfrone each received five-minute fighting majors and McDavid was given a game misconduct for removing his opponent’s helmet.
Prior to the fight, McDavid registered a goal and an assist. This was McDavid’s first career “Gordie Howe Hat Trick.” The projected top pick in the 2015 NHL Draft now has 51 points in 18 games this season.
