Cosentino: Domi-Horvat goal one for the ages

Domi steals the spotlight

  • The Max Domi to Bo Horavt goal is the best I’ve seen in eight years of calling MasterCard Memorial Cup games.
  • Domi will go in the first half of the first round, guaranteed. Horvat was already in that window.
  • Seth Griffith and Taylor Leier are the exact same player, and neither team would be where they are without them.
  • As I mentioned in the preview show, London’s goaltending was going to be a topic of discussion.
  • The ugly trend of London giving up third-period goals has become more than a coincidence.
  • This game looked like a battle of two teams trying to impose their style on one another and as a result, it lacked flow, especially in the first period.
  • The book should be out on Ty Rattie — he’s scored two goals in the same fashion, utilizing the toe drag.
  • Mac Carruth’s breakaway save on Josh Anderson with Seth Jones hounding him was a game changer.
  • Portland has huge upside with the likes of Paul Bitner (late ’96), Chase De Leo (’96) and Keegan Iverson (’96).
  • Leier strapped the Blades on at the ripe old age of two.
  • Let me correct what I said in the broadcast regarding Dominic Turgeon: He’s the son of Pierre, not Sylvain.

Other stuff

  • Of all the goalies in this event, Saskatoon’s Andrey Makarov looked the best.
  • Jonathan Drouin is ready for a break-out game.
  • Of all the coaches, scouts, media and experts, no one can properly analyze this field.
  • It’s the second time ever – and second year in a row — that each team is 1-1after four games.
  • It’s about time the Canadian Hockey League and each of its three member leagues standardizes the rules.
  • The attendance looks worse on TV, but it’s actually been quite good. Unfortunately it’s in the field of vision during play where the seats are empty.
  • Love the 50/50s in the west. Hopefully I can be like L.A. Kings director of scouting Mike Futa at the world juniors two years ago and win one of them.
