Defenceman Josh Mahura is rejoining the Canadian squad for its pre-tournament schedule leading up to the 2018 world junior championship, Hockey Canada announced on Sunday.

Mahura will return to the national team while defender Dante Fabbro recovers from a lower-body injury. However, Fabbro may be available to return in time for the World Juniors, according to Hockey Canada.

Suiting up for his second year as a member of the Regina Pats, Mahura has 11 goals and 30 points to his name through 28 appearances in 2017-18. The 19-year-old was among Canada’s final cuts at the national team’s recent selection camp in St. Catharines, Ont.

Team Canada takes on the Czech Republic on Dec. 20 and Switzerland on Dec. 22, in London, Ont. and Hamilton, Ont., respectively, before they whittle down their final world junior roster on Dec. 24.
