Dunn’s 3-point night propels IceDogs past Colts

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Vince Dunn scored two power-play goals, including the eventual winner in the second period, and added an assist as the Niagara IceDogs held off a late comeback attempt to edge the Barrie Colts 6-5 in Ontario Hockey League action on Thursday.

Mikkel Aagaard and Anthony DiFruscia had a goal and a helper apiece for Niagara (32-25-4), which has won five straight. Carter Verhaeghe and Blake Siebenaler rounded out the offence and Josh Ho-Sang chipped in with three assists.

Kevin Labanc and Andrew Mangiapane scored third-period goals to pull the Colts (38-22-2) to within a goal with nine minutes to play. Rasmus Anderson struck twice and added an assist, Brandon Prophet also scored, Joseph Blandisi set up four goals and Mangiapane added two assists for a three-point night.

IceDogs goaltender Brent Moran made 27 saves in the victory.

Mackenzie Blackwood started in net for Barrie, allowing four goals on 21 shots through 25:50. Daniel Gibl kicked out 18-of-20 shots in relief.

Niagara was 4 for 5 on the power play while the Colts scored twice on two chances with the man advantage.

PETES 4 KNIGHTS 1

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Eric Cornel scored an empty-net, power-play goal late in the third period and picked up two assists as the Petes downed London.

Jonathan Ang and Michael Clarke had a goal and a helper apiece for Peterborough (25-30-6). Josh Maguire rounded out the attack with a short-handed goal.

Brandon Crawley responded for the Knights (37-22-3), who have dropped back-to-back games.

BATTALION 3 BULLS 1

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Ryan Kujawinski had a goal and an assist to lead the Battalion past Belleville.

Mike Amadio and Nick Moutrey also scored for North Bay (31-18-11), which scored three straight goals.

Trent Fox had the lone goal for the Bulls (25-29-7), finding the back of the net with just 12 seconds left in the third period.

SPIRIT 4 WHALERS 1

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Dylan Sadowy scored shorthanded, on the power play, and at even strength to power Saginaw over the Whalers.

Jesse Barwell had the other Spirit (25-33-3) goal.

Sonny Milano replied for Plymouth (23-33-5).

GREYHOUNDS 6 SPITFIRES 4

WINDSOR, Ont. — Anthony DeAngelo scored two goals and set up two more as Sault Ste. Marie drubbed the Spitfires for their 10th straight victory.

Michael Bunting had a goal and two assists for the Greyhounds (48-11-2), and Bryan Moore, Jared McCann and Zachary Senyshyn, into an empty net, rounded out the attack.

Lucas Venuto and Jamie Lewis had a goal and a helper apiece to lead Windsor (24-33-3), which has dropped three straight. Patrick Sanvido and Cristiano DiGiacinto also scored.
