Frontenacs run over Bulls with six-goal period

KINGSTON, Ont. – Robert Polesello scored twice as the Kingston Frontenacs crushed the Belleville Bulls 6-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday.

Darcy Greenaway, Conor McGlynn, Sam Bennett and Spencer Watson also scored as Kingston (26-17-4) exploded for all six goals in the second period.

Cameron Brace had the only goal for Belleville (13-29-4) in the third period.

Frontenacs goaltender Matt Mahalak finished with 26 saves. At the other end of the ice, Charlie Graham and Michael Giugovaz allowed three goals each while combining for 32 saves.

WOLVES 4 COLTS 2

SUDBURY, Ont. — The Wolves used a three-goal third period to slip past Barrie.

Jeff Corbett, Danny Desrochers, Nicholas Baptiste and Radek Faksa had a goal each for Sudbury (26-13-8).

Aaron Ekblad and Cordell James countered for the Colts (24-18-3).

Franky Palazzese turned back 33 shots for the Wolves, while Colts goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 32 saves.

SPITFIRES 8 STING 7 (SO)

SARNIA, Ont. — Josh Ho-Sang had three goals and an assist to go along with the shootout winner, and Trevor Murphy scored twice as Windsor squeaked out a victory against the Sting.

Remy Giftopoulos and Slater Koekkoek also scored for the Spitfires (29-17-2) and Brady Vail had three assists.

Anthony DeAngelo had a pair of goals for Sarnia (15-27-6) and Joshua Chapman, Jimmy McDowell, Vladislav Kodola, David Brown and Kevin Spinozzi each scored once.

Windsor’s Alex Fotinos gave up seven goals on 31 shots through 40 minutes of action and was replaced by Dalen Kuchmey, who stopped five shots to earn the victory. Taylor Dupuis turned aside 37-of-44 shots for the Sting.

GREYHOUNDS 4 WHALERS 2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Tyler Gaudet scored once and set up two more as the Greyhounds doubled up Plymouth.

Andrew Fritsch, David Miller and Patrick Watling also scored for Sault Ste. Marie (33-11-5).

Connor Chatham and Matt Mistele responded for the Whalers (17-26-5).

Matt Murray made 28 saves for the Greyhounds as Plymouth’s Zack Bowman stopped 35-of-38 shots in defeat.

OTTERS 5 GENERALS 4

OSHAWA, Ont. — Connor Brown had three goals and an assist as Erie edged the Generals.

Brendan Gaunce scored once and set up two more for the Otters (36-9-2) and Kyle Pettit scored the eventual winner midway through the third period.

Scott Laughton had a pair of goals for Oshawa (31-13-4) while Dylan Smoskowitz and Will Petschenig scored the others.

Erie’s Oscar Dansk made 22 saves for the win. Daniel Altshuller allowed four goals on 21 shots for the Generals before giving way to Ken Appleby, who stopped 5-of-6 shots in 14 minutes of relief.

STORM 4 SPIRIT 2

GUELPH, Ont. — Kerby Rychel had two goals and an assist as the Storm toppled Saginaw.

Robby Fabbri and Brock McGinn also scored for Guelph (37-8-3) while Matt Finn tacked on two assists.

Jimmy Lodge and Nick Moutrey supplied the offence for the Spirit (23-20-5).

Justin Nichols made 32 saves for the Storm as Saginaw’s Jake Paterson stopped 44-of-48 shots in defeat.

BATTALION 3 PETES 1

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Jake Smith and Vincent Praplan each had a goal and an assist as the Battalion downed Peterborough.

Matt MacLeod also scored for North Bay (24-17-6), which is 5-0-1 in its last six outings.

Michael Clarke scored for the Petes (21-22-4).

Jake Smith made 27 saves for the Battalion. Peterborough’s Andrew D’Agostini stopped 28 shots in a losing cause.
