Greyhounds win, stay perfect to open OHL season

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Jared McCann had a goal and an assist as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds extended their win streak to five games by defeating the visiting Sudbury Wolves 6-1 on Wednesday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Medric Mercier, Tyler Hore, Charley Graaskamp, Michael Bunting and Gustav Bouramann also scored for the Greyhounds (5-0-0), who outshot Sudbury 52-16 — including 26-1 in the second period.

Nathan Pancel scored the lone goal for the Wolves (1-5-0), who are winless in five outings.

Sault Ste. Marie’s Brandon Halverson only had to make 15 saves for the win as Sudbury’s Troy Timpano kicked out 46-of-52 shots in a losing cause.

The Greyhounds went 3 for 7 on the power play while the Wolves failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

BULLS 4, WHALERS 1

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — Brett Gustavsen had a pair of goals and Charlie Graham made 25 saves as the Bulls toppled Plymouth.

Brandon Saigeon and Matt Luff also scored for Belleville (5-1-0).

Zack Bowman gave the Whalers (2-2-1) a chance to win by turning away 50-of-54 shots while Matt Mistele supplied the scoring.
