Greyhounds win streak snapped by IceDogs

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Carter Verhaeghe and Billy Jenkins each scored twice as the Niagara IceDogs snapped the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds’ 10-game win streak on Thursday with an 8-6 victory.

Mikkel Aagaard, Vince Dunn, Anthony DiFruscia and Ryan Mantha also scored for the IceDogs (22-23-4), who sparked their victory with a five-goal second period.

Zachary Senyshyn, Bryan Moore, Blake Speers, Nick Ritchie, Justin Bailey and Hayden Verbeek struck for the Greyhounds (37-10-2), who led 4-2 after 20 minutes of play.

Brandon Hope started in net for Niagara but was yanked after allowing six goals on 21 shots. Brent Moran stopped all 19 shots he faced in 29:22 of relief to earn the win.

Joseph Raaymakers turned aside 37-of-44 shots for Sault Ste. Marie.

The IceDogs went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Greyhounds failed to score on either of their chances with the man advantage.

BATTALION 5 WHALERS 3

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Nick Paul was one of three players to record a goal and an assist as the Battalion downed Plymouth.

Miles Liberati and Alex Henriksson matched Paul’s outing for North Bay (25-12-10) while Mike Baird and Brendan Miller added single goals. Jake Smith only had to make eight saves for the win.

Mitch Jones, Victor Crus Rydberg and Danny Vanderwiel found the back of the net for the Whalers (17-28-4) as Alex Nedeljkovic kicked out 39-of-44 shots in defeat.

STORM 9 PETES 4

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Jason Dickinson and Pius Suter each had a hat trick and Givani Smith scored once and set up two more as Guelph hammered the Petes.

Tyler Hill and Tyler Bertuzzi also scored for the Storm (28-18-4) while Dickinson tacked on two assists for a five-point night. Justin Nichols made 28 saves for the win.

Nathan Pancel had a pair of goals for Peterborough (18-24-5), Kyle Jenkins had a goal and two assists and Hunter Garlent added a single goal. Matthew Mancina stopped 25-of-34 shots in defeat.

STING 3 RANGERS 0

SARNIA, Ont. — Taylor Dupuis stopped all 19 shots his way for his first shutout of the season as the Sting halted Kitchener’s three-game win streak.

Brandon Lindberg, Hayden Hodgson and Stephen Pierog supplied the offence for Sarnia (24-19-6).

Jake Paterson turned away 28-of-30 shots for the Rangers (23-16-9).

ATTACK 7 SPITFIRES 5

WINDSOR, Ont. — Chris Bigras broke a 5-5 deadlock at 16:56 of the third period as Owen Sound went on to beat the Spitfires.

Thomas Schemitsch, Holden Cook, Erik Bradford, Kyle Platzer, Jaden Lindo and Damir Sharipzyanov also scored for the Attack (22-16-9). Michael McNiven stopped all three shots he faced in 14:50 of relief to earn the win. Jack Flinn turned aside 27-of-32 shots before getting pulled.

Logan Brown and Jamie Lewis each had a pair of goals for Windsor (21-26-2) while Luke Kirwan added the other. Brendan Johnston stopped 34-of-40 shots in defeat.

COLTS 3 FRONTENACS 2

BARRIE, Ont. — Justin Scott had a goal and an assist in regulation and then scored the winner in the seventh round of the shootout as the Colts slipped past Kingston.

Garrett Huey also had a goal and an assist in regulation for Barrie (30-17-2), which got a 22-save outing from Mackenzie Blackwood.

Samuel Schutt and Juho Lammikko scored for the Frontenacs (19-20-8) while Lucas Peressini stopped 33 shots in defeat.
