Martel scores in SO as Armada down Olympiques

GATINEAU, Que. — Danick Martel scored the first goal of the game, then added the shootout winner as the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada sailed past the Gatineau Olympiques 3-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Wednesday.

Philippe Sanche had the other regulation goal for Blainville-Boisbriand (34-13-7). Nikita Jevpalovs had two assists and also scored in the shootout.

Alexandre Carrier and Valentin Zykov had goals for the Olympiques (20-30-5).

Armada goaltender Marc-Antoine Turcotte stopped 38 shots through regulation and overtime and added two more saves in the shootout.

Gatineau’s Francoise Brassard made 26 saves through 65 minutes, and turned aside one shot on three shoot-out attempts.

Blainville-Boisbriand was 1 for 5 on the power play while the Olympiques failed to score on two chances with the man advantage.

CATARACTES 6, SCREAMING EAGLES 2

SYDNEY, N.S. — Christophe Lalonde struck twice, including an empty-net goal late in the third period, and added an assist to power Shawinigan past the Screaming Eagles.

Gabriel Slight and Alexis D’Aoust each scored one goal and set up another for the Cataractes (28-21-3) while Dennis Yan and Anthony Beauvillier rounded out the attack.

Pierre-Luc Dubois and Marcus Hinds supplied the offence for Cape Breton (23-24-5).
