McDavid records 3 points as Otters top Knights

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Jonathan Ang scored twice in a five-goal first period for Peterborough as the Petes doubled up the Windsor Spitfires 6-3 on Saturday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

Eric Cornel, Josh MacDonald and Steven Lorentz also found the back of the net in the first for Peterborough (20-24-5). Hunter Garlent added an empty-net goal late in the third period.

Slater Doggett struck twice for the Spitfires (21-28-2), who lost their third straight. Trevor Murphy also scored.

Matthew Mancina kicked out 36 shots in goal for the win. Brendan Johnston turned aside 10-of-14 shots in 15:32 for Windsor. Alex Fotinos replaced him and made 27 saves in 44:28.

The Petes went 1 for 2 on the power play while the Spitfires converted once on four chances.

OTTERS 4 KNIGHTS 2

ERIE, Pa. — Connor McDavid opened the scoring on the power play and added two assists as the Otters beat London.

Nicholas Baptiste and Kyle Pettit scored in the second period for Erie (36-11-3). Remi Elie finished the scoring with an empty-net goal.

Aaron Berisha and Matt Rupert found the back of the net for the Knights (30-18-3), who have lost four in a row.

BATTALION 3 BULLS 2 (SO)

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — Alex Henriksson scored the decisive goal in the shootout as North Bay edged the Bulls.

Brenden Miller and Mathew Santos rallied the Battalion (26-12-10) with goals in the third period.

Brett Gustavsen and Trent Fox helped Belleville (21-23-7) jump out to a 2-0 lead to start the game.

ATTACK 4 WHALERS 2

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Erik Bradford scored 36 seconds into the second and then added a power-play goal later in the period as Owen Sound downed the Whalers.

Thomas Schemitsch broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third for the Attack (23-17-9). Daniel Milne added an empty-net goal.

Connor Chatham — on the power play — and Ryan Moore replied for Plymouth (17-29-4).

STEELHEADS 5 SPIRIT 2

SAGINAW, Mich. — Jimmy Lodge scored his 25th of the season in a three-goal first period as Mississauga toppled the Spirit.

Stefan LeBlanc and Brandon Devlin also chipped in with goals in the first for the Steelheads (21-27-3). Nathan Bastian had a goal in the second while Bryson Cianfrone rounded out the attack in the third on the power play.

Jacob Ringuette and Dylan Sadowy — on the power play — scored for Saginaw (23-24-3) in the first.

COLTS 7 WOLVES 1

BARRIE, Ont. — Stephen Nosad and Andrew Mangiapane each had a pair of goals as the Colts routed Sudbury.

Nick Pastorious, Kevin Labanc and Michael Webster also scored for Barrie (32-17-2), which won its fourth straight. Rasmus Andersson added four assists.

Pavel Jenys responded with a goal in the third period for the Wolves (8-40-2).
