VICTORIAVILLE, Que. – Eric Veilleux, who coached the Shawinigan Cataractes to a Memorial Cup in 2012, has returned to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as coach and general manager of his hometown Victoriaville Tigres.
The Tigres announced Monday that he signed a threee-year contract.
Veilleux, 44, spent the last two seasons with the Norfolk Admirals, who played in the American Hockey League in 2014-15 and in the ECHL last season.
He previously coached nine seasons in the QMJHL with Shawinigan and Baie-Comeau, amassing 409 wins in 706 games. He was named Canadian junior coach of the year with Baie-Comeau in 2014.
The Tigres fired coach Bruce Richardson when the club was eliminated in five games by Moncton in the first round of playoffs, after finishing 11th overall in the 18-team league with a 33-28-7 record in the regular season. General manager Daniel Frechette later announced he was leaving for health reasons.
