OHL: Jones’ hat trick lifts Knights past Battalion

LONDON, Ont. – Max Jones completed a hat trick 54 seconds into overtime as the London Knights edged the North Bay Battalion 4-3 on Saturday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

Christian Dvorak rounded out the attack for the Knights (8-1-2) while Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Mitchell Marner tacked on three assists. It was London’s fifth straight victory.

Brett McKenzie struck twice and Zach Bratina also scored to help the Battalion (5-5-1) come back and force extra time.

Tyler Parsons turned away 18 shots for the win in net while Jake Smith made 32 saves in the loss.

The Knights were 0 for 4 on the power play with North Bay converting on both its chances with the man advantage.

SPIRIT 6 OTTERS 3

ERIE, Pa. — Connor Brown, Dylan Sadowy and Kirill Maksimov had a goal and assist each as Saginaw handed the Otters their first regulation loss of the season.

Brady Gilmour, Tye Felhaber and Michael Holmes supplied the rest of the offence for the Spirit (4-5-2).

Nick Betz had a goal and two assists to lead Erie offensively (9-1-1). Jake Marchment and Vanya Lodnia also scored.

Otters forward Patrick Fellows received a major penalty for checking from behind and a game misconduct at 19:51 of the third period.

FRONTENACS 3 ICEDOGS 2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Spencer Watson scored the winner in the third period as Kingston slipped past the IceDogs for its third-straight win.

Roland McKeown and Juho Lammikko also chipped in for the Frontenacs (8-2-2), who got three assists from Lawson Crouse.

Graham Knott and Ryan Mantha had goals for Niagara (6-5-1).

GREYHOUNDS 3 BULLDOGS 2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Blake Speers and Makar Tokarev had power-play goals for the Greyhounds as they snapped a five-game skid with a victory over Hamilton.

Boris Katchouk evened the game at 1-1 with a goal in the first period for Sault Ste. Marie (5-5-2).

Stephen Harper struck twice for the Bulldogs (4-6-0).

COLTS 7 WOLVES 2

BARRIE, Ont. — Ben Hawerchuk scored twice and Kevin Labanc had a goal and four assists as the Colts routed Sudbury.

Rasmus Andersson added a goal and two assists for Barrie (7-4-0). Lucas Chiodo, Justin Scott and Andrew Mangiapane rounded out the attack.

Alan Lyszczarczyk and Pavel Jenys found the back of the net for the Wolves (4-8-0).

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Jaden Lindo had the winner as the Attack slipped past Flint.

Josh Sterk opened the scoring for Owen Sound (7-4-2) in the second period on the power play.

Cullen Mercer scored for the Firebirds (5-5-1).
