OHL Playoffs: Sting take Game 3 over Greyhounds

Kingston took a commanding series lead over Oshawa thanks to Michael Dal Colle’s late goal.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Pavel Zacha had a goal and three assists and Matt Mistele scored twice as the Sarnia Sting beat the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 5-2 on Tuesday in Game 3 of their Ontario Hockey League first-round playoff series.

Patrick White and Brandon Lindberg also found the back of the net for the Sting, who trail the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Blake Speers and Frankie Pucci scored for the Greyhounds, who host Game 4 on on Thursday.

Sarnia’s Charlie Graham made 23 saves for the win as Brandon Halverson stopped 31-of-36 shots for Sault Ste. Marie.

The Sting went 3 for 7 on the power play while the Greyhounds scored once on five chances with the man advantage.

STEELHEADS 4, COLTS 3 (2OT)

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Josh Burnside scored 2:49 into the second overtime as the Steelheads edged Barrie for a 2-1 lead in their first-round series.

Daniel Muzito-Bagenda had a pair of goals and an assist and Alex Nylander scored once in regulation for Mississauga while Jack Flinn made 23 saves for the win.

Justin Scott, with two, and Kevin Labanc scored for the Colts. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 33-of-36 shots in defeat.

FRONTENACS 5, GENERALS 4

OSHAWA, Ont. — Michael Dal Colle struck twice — including the winner at 19:36 of the third period — and added two assists as Kingston beat the Generals to go up 3-0 in its first-round matchup.

Roland McKeown scored once and set up three more for the Frontenacs while Spencer Watson chipped in with three assists. Jason Robertson rounded out the offence with a single goal. Jeremy Helvig gave up three goals on 14 shots in 40:18 of action before Lucas Perissini took over. Perissini made 14 saves in relief, earning the victory.

Domenic Commisso, Anthony Cirelli, Joe Manchurek and Mitchel Vande Sompel scored for Oshawa. Justin Nichols turned away 35-of-40 shots in defeat.

OTTERS 6, SPIRIT 3

SAGINAW, Mich. — Alex DeBrincat had two goals and an assist and Dylan Strome scored once and added two helpers as Erie doubled up the Spirit for a 3-0 first-round series lead.

Christian Girhiny, Taylor Raddysh and Kyle Maksimovich also scored for the Otters. Devin Williams started in net for Erie and stopped 10-of-12 shots before giving way to Jake Lawr, who made 11 saves in 34:54 of relief.

Connor Brown, Mitchell Stephen and Mike Davies supplied the scoring for Saginaw, which got a 32-save outing from Evan Cormier.

PETES 7, BATTALION 6 (OT)

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Jonathan Ang scored 4:46 into overtime and Hunter Garlent had two goals and two assists in regulation as the Petes slipped past North Bay for a 2-1 first-round series lead.

Adam Timleck had a goal and two helpers while Logan DeNoble, Daniel Nikandrov and Josh Maguire added the others for Peterborough. Matthew Mancina made 33 saves for the win.

Mathew Santos netted a hat trick for the Battalion, who also got goals from Steve Harland, Mike Amadio and Brett McKenzie. Jake Smith kicked out 35-of-42 shots in a losing cause.
