OHL Roundup: Greyhounds edge Storm to extend win streak

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. — Jack Kopacka scored in the shootout as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds extended their Ontario Hockey League winning streak to 23 games with a 4-3 victory over the Guelph Storm on Saturday.

Tim Gettinger, Morgan Frost and Barrett Hayton scored in regulation for Sault Ste. Marie (32-3-2). Noah Carroll chipped in with three assists.

The Greyhounds own the third-longest winning streak in OHL history. The Kitchener Rangers hold the record with 25 straight victories in 1984 while the 2012 London Knights had 24.

Isaac Ratcliffe led the Storm (18-13-4) with two goals and Givani Smith had the other.

Greyhounds goaltender Matthew Villalta turned aside 38 shots. Guelph’s Anthony Popovich made 39 saves.

Sault Ste. Marie went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Storm were 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

BULLDOGS 7 FRONTENACS 4

HAMILTON — Matthew Strome scored twice and Will Bitten and Ryan Moore had a goal and two assists apiece as the Bulldogs downed Kingston.

Strome racked up the game-winning goal at 4:50 of the third period. Brandon Saigeon, Connor McMichael and Arthur Kaliyev also scored for Hamilton (23-7-6).

Jason Robertson, Brett Neumann, Matt Hotchkiss and Linus Nyman replied for the Frontenacs (18-11-6).

SPIRIT 6 FIREBIRDS 2

SAGINAW, Mich. — Kyle Bollers scored twice as the Spirit downed Flint.

Cole Coskey, Ryan Stepien, DJ Busdeker and Blade Jenkins also scored for Saginaw (18-13-3).

Kyle Harris and Connor Roberts supplied the offence for the Firebirds (11-22-3).

PETES 5 67’S 4

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Pavel Gogolev scored a hat trick as the Petes beat Ottawa.

Alex Black scored the winner 18:32 into the third period and Adam Timleck also scored for Peterborough (16-18-2).

Tye Felhaber had a hat trick of his own to lead the 67’s (15-19-3) and Kody Clark had the other goal.

COLTS 4 ATTACK 3 (SO)

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Aaron Luchuk and Ben Hawerchuk scored in the shootout to lift Barrie over the Attack.

Jason Willms, Tyler Tucker and Hawerchuk scored in regulation for the Colts (22-10-3).

Matthew Struthers, Alan Lyszczarczyk and Sean Durzi provided the offence for Owen Sound (14-14-6).
