OHL Roundup: Greyhounds’ winning streak snapped

BELLEVILLE, Ont. – The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds winning streak has come to an end.

The Greyhounds suffered their first loss of the season after falling to the Belleville Bulls 6-4 on Saturday night in Ontario Hockey League play.

The Bulls (7-2-0) started the game by scoring four straight goals.

Remi Elie led the charge offensively with two goals and two assists for Belleville while Brett Gustavsen, Michael Cramarossa, Jordan Subban and Chad Heffernan also found the back of the net.

Jared McCann, Michael Bunting, Gabe Guertler and Jean Dupuy responded for Sault Ste. Marie (8-1-0).

Charlie Graham was solid in net for the Bulls, turning aside 46 shots. Brandon Halverson started the game for the Greyhounds but was pulled after allowing three goals on shots in 12:29 of play. Joseph Raaymakers made 22 saves in relief.

Sault Ste. Marie was 2 for 8 on the power play while Belleville scored twice on five attempts.

OTTERS 6 KNIGHTS 2

ERIE, Penn. — Kyle Pettit struck twice to lead the Otters over London.

Alex DeBrincat, Taylor Raddysh, Dylan Strome and Connor McDavid rounded out the attack for Erie (8-0-1), which scored four goals in the third period.

John Warren and Aaron Berisha scored for the Knights (4-6-0).

ICEDOGS 4 WOLVES 2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Vince Dunn, Carter Verhaeghe and Johnny Corneil scored a goal apiece as Niagara beat Sudbury.

Graham Knott also chipped in for the IceDogs (2-7-0).

Jeff Corbett and Matt Schmalz replied for the Wolves (1-9-0).

WHALERS 4 PETES 3 (SO)

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Matt Mistele scored the shootout winner and also had a goal in regulation as Plymouth toppled the Petes.

Matthew Campagna also scored in the shootout for the Whalers (4-4-1), while Nicholas Caamano and Cullen Mercer scored in regulation.

Eric Cornel and Greg Betzold supplied the Peterborough (1-4-3) offence.

COLTS 7 SPITFIRES 4

BARRIE, Ont. — Joseph Blandisi scored a short-handed goal in the second period and added an empty netter to lead the Colts over Windsor.

Matthew Kreis, Rasmus Andersson, Brendan Lemieux, Garrett Hooey and Andrew Mangiapane rounded out the Barrie (6-3-1) attack.

Trevor Murphy, Ryan Foss, Graeme Brown and Cristiano DiGiacinto reponded for the Spitfires (3-5-0).

GENERALS 6 ATTACK 0

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Tobias Lindberg scored two goals and assisted on another and Ken Appleby made 19 saves as Oshawa routed the Attack.

Cole Cassels had a goal and three assists for the Generals (8-1-1). Hunter Smith, Stephen Desrocher and Michael Dal Colle supplied the rest of the offence.

Jack Flinn started the game for Owen Sound (4-3-3), but was pulled after allowing four goals on 17 shots. Brandon Hope played the remaining 25:26, turning aside 15 shots.

SPIRIT 2 RANGERS 1 (SO)

SAGINAW, Mich. — Dylan Sadowy scored the only goal of the shootout as the Spirit edged Kitchener and send it to overtime.

Jimmy Lodge chipped in with his fifth of the season at 18:37 of the third period to extend the game for Saginaw (4-4-1).

Justin Bailey had a first-period power-play goal for the Rangers (4-3-2).
