OHL Roundup: Leafs prospect Bracco powers Rangers past Petes

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Jeremy Bracco had a hat trick — including the winner — to power the Kitchener Rangers past the Peterborough Petes on Thursday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Bracco also added an assist as he extended his point streak to 17 games for the Rangers (12-7-1), while Joseph Garreffa had a pair of goals. Adam Mascherin and Connor Hall also found the back of the net.

Logan DeNoble struck twice as Peterborough (9-10-3), lost its fifth in a row. Zach Gallant and Matthew Timms also scored.

ATTACK 3, SPITFIRES 2 (0T)

WINDSOR, Ont. — Petrus Palmu scored 36 seconds into overtime as the Owen Sound Attack downed the Windsor Spitfires 3-2.

Palmu’s power-play goal snapped Owen Sound’s three game losing skid. Matt Schmalz and Zachary Roberts scored in regulation time for the Attack (11-10-1), while Michael McNiven made 21 saves for the win.

Aaron Luchuk forced the extra period for Windsor (13-4-2) when he tied it 2-2 at the 13:48 mark of the third. Mike Baird also scored for the Spitfires and Michael DiPietro stopped 31 shots.

Owen Sound went 1 for 5 on the power play and Windsor was 0 for 1.

FIREBIRDS 3, STING 1

FLINT, Mich. — Alex Peters had the eventual winner as the Firebirds held on for a win over Sarnia.

Jalen Smereck and Fedor Gordeev also scored as Flint (12-8-1) built a 3-0 lead.

Ryan McGregor responded for the Sting (12-7-2).

FRONTENACS 2, BATTALION 1

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Sam Harding’s goal 4:41 into the third period was the winner as Kingston eked out a win over the Battalion.

Jason Robertson also scored for the Frontenacs (9-10-1).

Kyle Potts was the lone scorer for North Bay (11-8-2).

COLTS 8, WOLVES 2

BARRIE, Ont. — Zachary Magwood struck twice and added three assists as the Colts routed Sudbury.

Giordano Finoro scored and added two assists as Barrie (6-12-2) ended a six-game losing streak. Christopher Cameron, Lucas Chiodo, Tom Hedberg, Kirill Nizhnikov and Kyle Heitzner chipped in as well.

Ryan Valentini and Dmitry Sokolov replied for the Wolves (9-11-1), who have dropped four straight.
