OHL Roundup: Otters narrowly beat Storm in OT

GUELPH, Ont. — Kyle Maksimovich scored in overtime as the Erie Otters narrowly escaped Guelph with a win in Ontario Hockey League action Tuesday.

The battle between the OHL’s top team and its basement-dweller turned out to be closer than expected, with the Storm keeping its modest points streak alive at three games (1-0-2).

Jake Marchment opened the scoring with a power-play goal 19 seconds into the second period, but it took James McEwan just 47 seconds to erase that slight advantage.

The teams remained deadlocked at 1-1 until Maksimovich scored 41 seconds into overtime on a power play.

Goaltender Michael Giugovaz kept Guelph in the game with 35 saves.

Devin Williams stopped 29 shots for Erie.

The Otters struck on two of four power-play chances, while the Storm was shut out on two attempts.

FILNT, Mich. — Trent Fox scored his second goal of the game in overtime to lead Hamilton over the Firebirds.

Matthew Strome also scored for Hamilton ().

SUDBURY, Ont. — Johnny Corneil had two goals and an assist as Niagara beat the Wolves.
