OHL Roundup: Pettit’s 3 points help Otters get past Attack

ERIE, Pa. — Kyle Pettit opened the scoring on the power play and added two helpers as the Erie Otters got past the Owen Sound Attack 5-2 on Saturday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

Darren Raddysh scored the winner on the power play with Gera Poddubnyi adding another for Erie (8-3-1). Alex DeBrincat and Taylor Raddysh had empty netters.

Raddysh leads the OHL with 24 points in 10 games.

Kevin Hancock and Ethan Szypula found the back of the net for the Attack (6-6-0).

Troy Timpano made 23 saves for the win in net as Michael McNiven stopped 20-of-23 shots in defeat.

The Otters scored twice on four power plays while Owen Sound was scoreless on its lone opportunity.

FIREBIRDS 4 SPITFIRES 1

FLINT, Mich. — Luke Kirwan scored the winner on the power play as the Firebirds used four consecutive goals to beat Windsor.

Everett Clark tied the game at 1-1, with Dane Johnstone and Hunter Holmes adding empty netters for Flint (7-4-1). Garrett Forrest made 23 saves.

Gabriel Vilardi opened the scoring with a power-play goal for the Spitfires (8-4-0) and Michael DiPietro kicked out 33-of-35 shots.

BATTALION 3 BULLDOGS 2 (OT)

HAMILTON — Steve Harland scored the winner at 3:19 of overtime as North Bay edged the Bulldogs.

Cam Dineen tied the game at 2-2 with a goal at the 19-minute mark of the third period. Kyle Potts had the other for the Battalion (6-6-0) and Brent Moran made 20 saves.

Marian Studenic and Matthew Strome, on the power play, chipped in for Hamilton (7-3-1), which got 30 stops from Cole Ceci.

SPIRIT 3 FRONTENACS 2

SAGINAW, Mich. — Jesse Barwell scored 22 seconds into the third period for the winner as the Spirit held off Kingston.

Damien Giroux and Hayden Hodgson, on the power play, supplied the rest of the offence for Saginaw (2-7-2). Evan Cormier turned aside 31 shots.

Linus Nyman gave the Frontenacs (4-6-1) a 2-0 lead by scoring twice within five minutes of each other in the second period. Mario Peccia made 10 saves in defeat.

GREYHOUNDS 4 67’s 3 (OT)

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Boris Katchouk had the winner at 2:06 of extra time and Bobby MacIntyre scored once and tacked on two helpers as the Greyhounds edged Ottawa.

Otto Makinen, on the power play, and Tim Gettinger also chipped in for Sault Ste. Marie (8-4-1), which got 20 saves from Matthew Villalta.

Drake Rymsha, Patrick White and Jared Steege provided the offence for the 67’s (3-7-2). Olivier Lafreniere turned aside 35 shots.

STORM 5 COLTS 4

BARRIE, Ont. — Isaac Ratcliffe struck twice and Anthony Popovich made 31 saves as Guelph topped the Colts.

Garrett McFadden, Matt Hotchkiss and Noah Carroll supplied the rest of the offence for the Storm (5-6-1).

Kirill Nizhnikov, Cordell James, Anthony Stefano and Matt Brassard scored for Barrie (5-6-1). David Ovsjannikov kicked out 30-of-35 shots in net.

Barrie’s Tyler Tucker received a game misconduct following a major penalty for checking to the head in the second period.
