OHL Roundup: Sting closing in on West lead

WINDSOR, Ont. — Hayden Hodgson had a pair of goals and the Sarnia Sting closed in on top spot in the Ontario Hockey League’s West Division with a 6-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires on Monday.

The Sting (19-11-3) improved to 3-0-1 over their last four games and climbed to within four points of the division-leading Spitfires (20-10-5).

Matt Mistele had a goal and two assists for the Sting, while Nikita Korostelev, Jordan Kyrou and Sasha Chmelevski also scored.

Cole Carter, Mikhail Sergachev and Logan Stanley had Windsor’s goals.

Kaden Fulcher made 33 saves for the Sting, while Garret Hughson stopped 15 shots for the Spitfires.

Colts 5 IceDogs 4 (SO)

BARRIE, Ont. — Andrew Mangiapane had the only goal in the shootout as the Central Division-leading Colts edged Niagara.

Kevin Labanc had two goals — including the game-tying goal with less than a minute in regulation — and an assist for Barrie (20-12-1), while Anthony Stefano and Justin Scott also scored.

Josh Ho-Sang had two goals an assist for the IceDogs (16-12-5). Jordan Maletta and Josh Wesley rounded out the scoring.

Spirit 5 Greyhounds 1

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Evan Cormier’s 34 saves were backed by a well-rounded offence as Saginaw beat the Greyhounds.

Artem Artemov, Devon Paliani, Greg DiTomaso, Connor Brown and Tye Felhaber contributed goals for the Spirit (15-17-3).

Zachary Senyshyn scored for Sault Ste. Marie (16-15-3).
