OHL Roundup: Willms scores winner late as Colts edge Steelheads

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Jason Willms scored the go-ahead goal 17:24 into the third period to lift the Barrie Colts over the Mississauga Steelheads 3-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Justin Murray and Zachary Magwood also scored for Barrie (16-9-3).

Michael McLeod and Thomas Harley scored for the Steelheads (11-18-1) to tie the game.

Colts goaltender Kai Edmonds turned aside 32 shots. Mississauga’s Jacob Ingham made 27 saves.

The Steelheads went 2 for 6 on the power play. Barrie was 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

ICEDOGS 3 FRONTENACS 1

KINGSTON, Ont. — Danial Singer scored the eventual winner on a power play in the second period and Niagara went on to beat the Frontenacs.

Oliver Castleman and Kirill Maksimov also scored for the IceDogs (15-9-5).

Brett Neumann scored for Kingston (15-8-6).

STING 7 OTTERS 4

SARNIA, Ont. — Adam Ruzicka scored twice and Jordan Kyrou had a goal and two assists as the Sting defeated Erie.

Brady Hinz, Drake Rymsha, Brayden Guy and Hugo Leufvenius also scored for Sarnia (23-6-2) and Anthony Salinitri had three assists.

Alex Gritz led the Otters (10-15-5) with two goals and Taylor Raddysh and Patrick Fellows rounded out the attack.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Morgan Frost had a goal and an assist to lead the Greyhounds over North Bay.

Boris Katchouk and Mac Hollowell also scored for Sault Ste. Marie (25-3-2).

Luke Burghardt scored for the Battalion (10-16-4).

KITCHENER, Ont. — Adam Mascherin scored 3:41 into overtime to lift the Rangers over Flint.

Riley Damiani, Adam Liška, Nick McHugh and Greg Meireles also scored for Kitchener (19-10-2).

Jalen Smereck, Ty Dellandrea, Nikita Alexandrov and Ryan Littlejohn supplied the offence for the Firebirds (9-17-3).

GUELPH, Ont. — Barret Kirwin had a goal and an assist and Garrett McFadden set up three goals as the Storm doubled up Owen Sound.

Cedric Ralph, Mason Primeau, Ryan Merkley, Liam Hawel and Nate Schnarr also scored for Guelph (16-10-3).

Sean Durzi, Jacob Friend and Maksim Sushko scored for the Attack (13-11-4).

OSHAWA, Ont. — Matt Brassard scored twice as the Generals downed Ottawa.

Kyle MacLean, Domenico Commisso and Brendan Harrogate also scored for Oshawa (13-15-2).

Travis Barron, Peter Stratis and Noel Hoefenmayer scored for the 67’s (14-14-2).

KNIGHTS 4 PETES 3 (OT)

LONDON, Ont. — Evan Bouchard scored 50 second into overtime to lift the Knights over Peterborough.

Alec Regula, Max Jones and Robert Thomas also scored London (14-13-2).

Logan DeNoble, Zach Gallant and Matthew Timms, with the tying goal 19:54 into the third, scored for the Petes (15-13-2).
