QMJHL: Islanders sink Olympiques in overtime

GATINEAU, Que. – Dexter Weber scored 1:19 into overtime to lift the Charlottetown Islanders to a 5-4 win over the Gatineau Olympiques on Thursday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Mitchell Balmas had two goals and one assist for Charlottetown (10-8-2), while Will Thompson and Alexandre Goulet supplied the rest of the offence with third-period goals to tie the game.

Yan Pavel Laplante struck twice for the Olympiques (11-6-2). Alex Breton and Alex Dostie also scored.

Mason McDonald took the win after making 35 saves. Bo Taylor stopped 21 shots in the losing effort.

The Islanders were 1 for 5 on the power play. Gatineau scored twice on four chances with the man advantage.
