QMJHL: Karabacek leads Olympiques past Armada

GATINEAU, Que. — Vaclav Karabacek had a pair of goals as the Gatineau Olympiques downed the visiting Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 5-3 on Wednesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Marc Beckstead, Peter Woulds and Alex Dostie also scored for the Olympiques (5-1-2), who currently sit atop the QMJHL standings.

Danick Martel, Tyler Hylland and Olivier Schingh-Gomez supplied the scoring for the Armada (2-4-1) while Emil Aronsson assisted on all three of his club’s goals.

Gatineau’s Anthony Brodeur made 23 saves for the win as Samuel Montembeault kicked out 28 shots for Blainville-Boisbriand.

The Olympiques went 2 for 6 on the power play while the Armada scored once on five chances with the man advantage.

SEA DOGS 5, ISLANDERS 4 (SO)

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Nathan Noel scored the shootout winner and Mark Tremaine had a goal and two assists in regulation as the Sea Dogs slipped past Charlottetown.

Olivier LeBlanc, Adam Marsh and Mathieu Joseph also scored for Saint John (4-1-2), which has earned at least one point in five straight games, while Sebastien Auger made 30 saves for the win.

Alexandre Goulet had a pair of goals for the Islanders (4-2-2), Luc Deschenes and Daniel Sprong each scored once. Mason McDonald turned away 30 shots in defeat.

REMPARTS 4, PHOENIX 1

QUEBEC CITY — Eric Brassard stopped 25 shots and Adam Erne assisted on three of his club’s goals as the Remparts snapped Sherbrooke’s three-game winning streak.

Marc-Olivier Roy, Cody Donaghey, Guillaume Gauthier and Dmytro Timashov scored for Quebec City (4-3-0).

Tim Wieser scored the lone goal for the Phoenix (5-2-0) while Alex Bureau turned aside 19 shots in a losing cause.
