QMJHL Roundup: Ayotte has 4 points for Tigres in win over Phoenix

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — Mathieu Ayotte had two goals and two assists on Sunday as the Victoriaville Tigres downed the Sherbrooke Phoenix 5-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Felix Lauzon added a goal and three helpers for the Tigres (15-11-4). James Phelan and Alexandre Goulet also chipped in, with James Povall stopping 35 shots.

Julien Bahl and Yaroslav Alexeyev scored for Sherbrooke (10-16-3). Justin Blanchette took the loss by turning away 8-of-11 shots in 23:16. William Giroux went the rest of the way and made 11 saves.

Victoriaville’s Jacob Lapierre was ejected early in the first period after a major penalty for checking from behind.

The Tigres converted on all three of their power plays while the Phoenix went 1 for 5.

TITAN 5 WILDCATS 4

BATHURST, N.B. — Dawson Theede scored twice, including the winner on the power play, while also adding an assist as the Titan slipped past Moncton.

Rodrigo Abols had a power-play goal and two assists for Acadie-Bathurst (14-14-2). Jeffrey Truchon-Viel and Christophe Boivin, on the power play, had the others and Simon Boudreault-Belzile made 34 saves.

Liam Murphy, Cameron Askew, Simon Le Coultre, on the power play, and Manuel Wiederer, shorthanded, provided the offence for the Wildcats (11-18-0). Dominik Tmej turned aside 32-of-37 shots.

Le Coultre was also ejected in the second period after receiving a major penalty for charging.

SCREAMING EAGLES 3 FOREURS 2 (SO)

SYDNEY, N.S. — Massimo Carozza scored the winner and Kevin Mandolese made 22 saves while stopping all four shots in the shootout as the Screaming Eagles edged Val-d’Or.

Drake Batherson and Adam McCormick had power-play goals in regulation for Cape Breton (14-13-3).

Mathieu Nadeau struck twice for the Foreurs (13-14-3), with Dereck Baribeau kicking out 33 shots.

OCEANIC 5 VOLTIGEURS 3

DRUMMONDVIILE, Que. — Tyler Boland had a goal and three assists as Rimouski toppled the Voltigeurs.

Dominic Cormier scored the winner with Hunter Moreau, Antoine Dufort-Plante and Charle-Edouard D’Astous rounding out the attack for the Oceanic (14-15-1). Gabriel Morency turned away 24 shots.

Nathan Hudgin, Alex Barre-Boulet and Joey Ratelle found the back of the net for Drummondville (11-14-3). Olivier Rodrigue stopped 30-of-35 shots.

DRAKKAR 3 SAGUENEENS 2 (SO)

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — D’Artagnan Joly and Vincent Deslauriers scored in the shootout as Baie-Comeau topped the Sagueneens.

Jordan Martel and Vincent Lavoie gave the Drakkar (10-13-4) a 2-0 lead before the five-minute mark of the first period. Trevor Martin made 29 saves.

Dmitry Zhukenov and Nicolas Roy responded with power-play goals for Chicoutimi (15-10-2) to force extra time. Xavier Potvin turned away 28 shots.

SEA DOGS 6 OLYMPIQUES 3

GATINEAU, Que. — Kyle Ward scored the winner in the third period and Alex Bishop stopped 15 shots as Saint John defeated the Olympiques.

Spencer Smallman, Thomas Chabot, Matthew Highmore, Samuel Dove-McFalls and Nathan Noel, into an empty net, provided the rest of the offence for the Sea Dogs (19-7-3).

Yakov Trenin, shorthanded, Zack MacEwen, on the power play and Vitalii Abramov had goals for Gatineau (11-15-3). Mathieu Bellemare kicked out 32-of-37-shots.
