QMJHL Roundup: Cataractes cruise past Foreurs

VAL-D’OR, Que. — Gabriel Gagne and Anthony Beauvillier each had a pair of goals as the Shawinigan Cataractes beat the Val-d’Or Foreurs 5-2 on Saturday night in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Danny Moynihan scored in the second period for the Cataractes (43-18-4), who got 28 saves from Philippe Cadorette.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Yan Dion found the back of the net for Val-d’Or (48-14-4). Etienne Montpetit took the loss after turning aside 16-of-20 shots in 42:28. Samuel Gagnon went the rest of the way, stopping all six shots he faced.

Shawinigan was 2 for 7 on the power play while the Foreurs were scoreless on two attempts.

SEA DOGS 4 WILDCATS 1

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Sam Povorozniouk and Thomas Chabot had a goal and an assist each as the Sea Dogs downed Moncton.

Nathan Noel and Bokondji Imama also scored for Saint John (42-18-5).

Cameron Askew had the lone goal for the Wildcats (36-20-10).

SCREAMING EAGLES 4 TITAN 1

BATHURST, N.B. — Phelix Martineau struck twice as Cape Breton toppled the Titan for its fifth-straight win.

Pierre-Luc Dubois and Michael Joly also chipped in for the Screaming Eagles (36-24-6), who scored three times in the first period.

Nicholas Blanchard had a short-handed goal in the second for Acadie-Bathurst (25-34-6).

Dawson Theede of the Titan was ejected in the second period for checking to the head.

OCEANIC 3 OLYMPIQUES 2

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Antoine Dufort-Plante scored the winner late in the third period as the Oceanic slipped past Gatineau.

Andrew Picco also found the back of the net in the third for Rimouski (34-25-6). Deven St-Hilaire had the other.

Alex Dostie and Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau supplied the offence for the Olympiques (45-18-3).

ISLANDERS 3 MOOSEHEADS 2 (OT)

HALIFAX — Kameron Kielly scored the winner on a power play in overtime as Charlottetown won its fifth in a row by edging the Mooseheads.

Alexis Vanier and Samuel Blais also had power-play goals for the Islanders (33-26-7) in regulation.

Kelly Bent and Otto Somppi, on the power play, opened the scoring for Halifax (20-38-8).

ARMADA 3 VOLTIGEURS 1

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Antoine Crete-Belzile had a power-play goal in the third period as Blainville-Boisbriand got past the Voltigeurs.

Pascal Corbeil and Kristian Pospisil, into an empty net, rounded out the attack for the Armada (25-32-9).

Michael Carcone scored the lone goal for Drummondville (27-37-2).
