CHARLOTTETOWN – Daniel Sprong scored his second goal of the game 58 seconds into overtime as the Charlottetown Islanders beat the Halifax Mooseheads 6-5 on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Sprong has six goals and one assist for the Islanders (15-20-4) since being returned to junior by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 19.

Dexter Weber had a goal and four assists while Samuel Blais scored once and added two helpers for Charlottetown. Mitchell Balmas and Johnny Foley rounded out the attack.

Otto Somppi forced extra time with a goal at 19:57 of the third period. Joel Bishop, on the power play, and Maxime Fortier also scored in the third for the Mooseheads (13-20-6). Danny Moynihan and Barrett Dachyshyn had the others.

Matthew Welsh picked up the win in net after turning aside 25 shots. Eric Brassard made 44 saves for Halifax in the loss.

The Islanders scored twice on three power plays, with the Mooseheads going 1 for 3.

SEA DOGS 3 SCREAMING EAGLES 1

SYDNEY, N.S. — Nathan Noel broke a third-period tie to lead Saint John past the Screaming Eagles.

Ryan Chiasson opened the scoring for the Sea Dogs (23-13-3), with Adam Marsh adding an empty netter.

Peyton Hoyt tied the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal in the third for Cape Breton (20-17-4).

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Tyler Boland scored the eventual winner on the power play as Rimouski hung on to beat the Voltigeurs.

Samuel Laberge, on the power play, and Dylan Montcalm supplied the rest of the offence for the Oceanic (23-11-4). Simon Bourque tacked on three assists.

Michael Carcone, with the man advantage, and Gabriel Slight chipped in for Drummondville (18-21-1).

REMPARTS 4 DRAKKAR 3

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Bronson Beaton and Olivier Garneau scored twice in a 20-second span in the third period as Quebec rallied past the Drakkar.

Matthew Boucher and Alexandre Sills also had goals for the Remparts (23-13-4).

Tobie Paquette-Bisson, on the power play, Fabrizio Ricci and Matteo Pietroniro found the back of the net for Baie-Comeau (5-28-3).

OLYMPIQUES 7 PHOENIX 2

GATINEAU, Que. — Vitalii Abramov had two goals and two assists as the Olympiques downed Sherbrooke.

Chiwetin Blacksmith scored twice and added an assist while Yan Pavel Laplante had a goal and three assists for Gatineau (25-11-2). Marc-Olivier Crevier-Morin and Joey Richard rounded out the attack.

Daniel Audette and Jan Dufek found the back of the net for the Phoenix (15-19-5).

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Alexis D’Aoust scored the eventual winner midway through the third period as the Cataractes slipped past Chicoutimi.

Gabriel Gagne, Dennis Yan and Brandon Gignac supplied the rest of the offence for Shawinigan (24-11-3).

Zachary Lavigne, Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau and Antoine Marcoux, on the power play, had goals for the Sagueneens (18-17-4).

FOREURS 4 HUSKIES 2

VAL-D’OR, Que. — Anthony Beauregard had a goal and two assists as the Foreurs doubled up Rouyn-Noranda.

Anthony Richard, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Jan Mandat also scored for Val-d’Or (29-8-3).

Martins Dzierkals and Anthony Wojcik supplied the scoring for the Huskies (29-6-4).

TIGRES 6 TITAN 4

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — James Phelan struck twice as the Tigres got past Acadie-Bathurst.

Mathieu Ayotte and Maxime Comtois had a goal and three assists each in regulation for Victoriaville (17-14-7). Kyle Tibbo and Pascal Laberge had the others.

Jordan Maher scored twice for the Titan (15-20-4), with Campbell Pickard and Daniil Miromanov also chipping in.
