QMJHL Roundup: Kosorenkov’s goal pushes Tigres past Cataractes

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. – Ivan Kosorenkov scored the winner on the power play as the Victoriaville Tigres ended Shawnigan’s 11-game winning streak with a 3-1 win over the Cataractes on Saturday night in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Felix Lauzon and Antoine Lessard also chipped in for the Tigres (8-7-1).

Samuel Asselin responded for Shawnigan (11-2-0).

Olivier Tremblay made 18 saves for the win as Mikhail Denisov turned aside 26-of-29 shots in defeat.

Victoriaville was 1 for 9 on the power play while the Cataractes failed to score on six opportunities with the man advantage.

PHOENIX 7 VOLTIGEURS 3

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Yaroslav Alexeyev had two goals and two assists as the Phoenix downed Drummondville.

Hugo Roy added two goals and an assist while Carl Neill, Marek Zachar and Chase Harwell rounded out the attack for Sherbrooke (5-6-3). Evan Fitzpatrick made 31 saves.

Joey Ratelle led the Voltigeurs (6-6-2) with two goals and an assist. Frederic Aube had the other and Frederic Foulem took the loss by turning aside 27-of-33 shots through two periods. Hugo Talbot-Tassi played the third and stopped 10 shots.

SCREAMING EAGLES 5 MOOSEHEADS 1

HALIFAX — Jordan Ty Fournier scored the winner late in the first period and Kyle Jessiman stopped 25 shots as Cape Breton beat the Mooseheads.

Olivier Leblanc, Giovanni Fiore and Massimo Carozza had goals in the second period for the Screaming Eagles (8-8-0) while Peyton Hoyt opened the scoring.

Otto Somppi found the back of the net for Halifax (8-8-0) and Kevin Resop suffered defeat after kicking out 14-of-17 shots in 48:14. Alexis Gravel played part of the second period and made 12 saves on 14 shots.
