QMJHL Roundup: Wildcats run streak up to five

HALIFAX — Conor Garland scored a pair of goals and added an assist, and the Moncton Wildcats defeated the Halifax Mooseheads 3-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Monday.

Moncton (25-10-4) won its fifth game in a row. The Maritimes Division leaders are four points back of league-leading Rouyn-Noranda, which lost 4-1 to Gatineau on Monday.

Halifax (12-19-5) is winless in its last four games (0-3-1).

The Mooseheads started well, taking a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals from Maxime Fortier and Joel Bishop.

Garland cut the lead to one with a power-play goal in the second period. He then set up Manuel Wiederer for the tying goal in the third before scoring the winner 12:38 into the final period.

Keven Bouchard made 26 saves for Moncton to pick up the win.

Eric Brassard stopped 25 shots for the Mooseheads.

Olympiques 4 Huskies 1

GATINEAU, QUE. — Yakov Trenin had a goal and an assist as the Olympiques knocked off league-leading Rouyn-Noranda.

Vincent Milot-Ouellet, Guillaume McSween and Yan Pavel Laplante also scored for Gatineau (23-10-2).

Julien Nantel had the lone goal for the Huskies (27-5-4).

Islanders 4, Screaming Eagles 1

SYDNEY, N.S. — Daniel Sprong scored his first two goals of the season to lead Charlottetown over Cape Breton.

Oliver Cooper and Pierre-Olivier Joseph rounded out the scoring for the Islanders (14-19-3).

Colin MacSween scored the first goal of the game, but that was the only offence mustered by the Screaming Eagles (19-16-3).

Titan 6 Sea Dogs 5

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Jeffrey Truchon-Viel scored in overtime to lead Acadie-Bathurst over the Sea Dogs.

Truchon-Viel, Christophe Boivin and Mark Simpson each had two goals and an assist for the Titan (14-19-3), who came back from a 4-0 deficit.

Mathieu Joseph had three goals and an assist for Saint John (20-13-3). Joe Veleno and Nathan Noel also scored.

Sagueneens 3 Voltigeurs 2

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Nicolas Roy scored with 35 seconds left in regulation to lead Chicoutimi over the Voltigeurs.

Jonathan Bourcier and Dmitry Zhukenov had the other goals for the Sagueneens (16-16-4).

Alex Barre-Boulet and Charley Graaskamp provided the offence for Drummondville (18-19-0).

Phoenix 4 Remparts 1

QUEBEC CITY — Daniel Audette scored on a power play and short-handed as Sherbrooke downed the Remparts.

Kevin Gilbert and Guillaume Gauthier had the other goals for the Phoenix (14-17-5).

Matthew Boucher scored for Quebec (21-13-3).

Tigres 6 Oceanic 1

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — Mathieu Ayotte had two goals and an assist as the Tigres thumped Rimouski,

Jimmy Huntington, Alexandre Goulet, Marc Beckstead and Maxime Comtois rounded out the scoring for Victoriaville (16-13-6).

Antoine Dufort-Plante scored in the third period for Rimouski (20-11-4) to ruin the shutout bid of Tigres goaltender Olivier Tremblay.

Cataractes 8 Drakkar 0

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Brandon Gignac scored twice and added four assists and Alexis D’Aoust had a hat trick as the Cataractes hammered last-place Baie-Comeau.

Nicholas Welsh, Alex Pawelczyk and Gabriel Gagne also scored for the Cataractes (22-10-3), while Mikhail Denisov made 22 saves for the shutout.

Evgeny Kiselev surrendered three goals on 15 shots and Mathieu Paradis surrendered five goals on 17 shots for the Drakkar (5-26-2).

Foreurs 3 Armada 1

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Alexis Pepin scored the winning goal and had an assist as Val-d’Or defeated Blainville-Boisbriand.

Jan Mandat and Nicolas Aube-Kubel also scored for the Foreurs (26-8-3).

Brendan Hamelin scored for the Armada (13-18-6).
