QMJHL Roundup: Veleno scores twice as Voltigeurs rout Phoenix

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Joe Veleno scored his first two goals since being traded to Drummondville and Olivier Rodrigue stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Voltigeurs blanked the Sherbrooke Phoenix 8-0 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Veleno added two assists in his 10th game since being traded to the Voltigeurs from Saint John in December.

Connor Bramwell, Cedric Desruisseaux, Nicolas Beaudin, Daven Castonguay, Pavel Koltygin and Morgan Adams-Moisan supplied the rest of the offence for Drummondville (30-13-2).

Brendan Cregan combined with Reilly Pickard for 27 saves for the Phoenix (19-19-9).

The Voltigeurs went 3 for 9 on the power play and didn’t take any penalties.

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Kevin Klima had two goals and an assist as the Sagueneens defeated Gatineau.

Samuel Houde, Vincent Tremblay-Lapalme and Gabriel Villeneuve also scored for Chicoutimi (17-23-4). Alexis Shank turned aside 26 shots for the win in net.

Vincent Lampron responded for the Olympiques (24-16-4). Creed Jones combined with Tristan Berube for 25 saves for Gatineau.

WILDCATS 6 SCREAMING EAGLES 2

MONCTON, N.B. — Anderson MacDonald struck twice and Matthew Waite turned aside 34 shots as the Wildcats downed Cape Breton.

Jakob Pelletier, Mika Cyr, Nicholas Welsh and James Phelan rounded out the attack for Moncton (19-20-8).

Sacha Roy and Egor Sokolov scored for the Screaming Eagles (20-20-6), who got 25 saves from Kevin Mandolese.

TITAN 11 MOOSEHEADS 1

BATHURST, N.B. — Mitchell Balmas had four goals as the Titan scored seven times in the first period to crush Halifax.

Jeffrey Truchon-Viel, Ethan Crossman and Liam Murphy all had two goals and an assist for Acadie-Bathurst (25-13-8). Samuel L’Italien chipped in with a goal and two helpers while Joseph Murdaca combined with Evan Fitzpatrick for 28 saves.

Kyle Petten responded for the Mooseheads (30-11-6) and Blade Mann-Dixon combined with Alexis Gravel for 28 saves.

Halifax’s Filip Zadina was given a match penalty for checking to the head at 13:22 of the first period.

VAL-D’OR, Que. — Alexandre Alain and Joel Teasdale both had two goals and an assist to lift Blainville-Boisbriand over the Foreurs.

Alexander Katerinakis scored the winner and Emile Samson made 10 saves for the Armada (31-9-3).

Ivan Kozlov scored and Mathieu Marquis turned away 38 shots for Val-d’Or (17-24-4).

HUSKIES 3 CATARACTES 2

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Rafael Harvey-Pinard scored the winner on a third-period power play and Samuel Harvey turned aside 28 shots as the Huskies edged Shawinigan.

Tyler Hinam and Felix Bibeau also chipped in for Rouyn-Noranda (27-12-7).

Jan Drozg and Vasily Glotov found the back of the net for the Cataractes (14-29-1). Lucas Fitzpatrick made 33 saves in defeat.

SEA DOGS 4 REMPARTS 1

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Alex D’Orio turned aside 44 shots and Anthony Boucher struck twice as the Sea Dogs beat Quebec.

Ostap Safin and Robbie Burt also scored for Saint John (12-25-8).

Pascal Laberge opened the scoring on the power play for the Remparts (25-17-5) and Dereck Baribeau made 22 saves.
