QMJHL Roundup: Voltigeurs drop fourth straight

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Jean-Christophe Beaudin and Mathieu Boucher had two goals apiece to lead the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies past the Sherbrooke Phoenix 7-1 on Sunday for their ninth-straight win in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Timo Meier added a goal and two assists for the Huskies (49-9-5), who are inching closer to clinching the QMJHL’s regular season title. With five games remaining before the playoffs, Rouyn-Noranda is in first place — 16 points up on Saint John, which is second.

Jeremy Lauzon and Philippe Myers rounded out the attack for the Huskies, who scored five times in the third period.

Daniel Audette opened the scoring for Sherbrooke (23-30-9), which had a three-game winning streak ended.

Samuel Harvey turned aside 25-of-26 shots in 57:36 to earn the win in net. Francis Lavallee played the final 2:24 and stopped both shots he faced. Evan Fitzpatrick kicked out 43-of-50 shots in defeat.

Rouyn-Noranda was 2 for 5 on the power play while the Phoenix were scoreless on four chances with the man advantage.

SCREAMING EAGLES 4, VOLTIGEURS 1

SYDNEY, N.S. — Michael Joly struck twice in a four-goal third period as the Screaming Eagles got past Drummondville.

Pierre-Luc Dubois and Evgeny Svechnikov also chipped in during the third for Cape Breton (34-24-6). Loik Leveille and Clark Bishop tacked on two assists apiece.

Charley Graaskamp had the lone goal for the Voltigeurs (26-36-2), who dropped their fourth in a row.

ISLANDERS 4, SEA DOGS 3 (OT)

CHARLOTTETOWN — Kameron Kielly scored his second goal of the game on the power play in overtime as the Islanders topped Saint John for their third-straight win.

Samuel Blais, shorthanded, and Bradley Kennedy rounded out the attack for Charlottetown (31-26-7).

Daniel Del Paggio and Sam Povorozniouk had power-play goals for the Sea Dogs (41-16-5) with Matt Murphy adding the other.

TITAN 5, OCEANIC 3

BATHURST, N.B. — Jeffrey Truchon-Viel had two goals and an assist as the Titan downed Rimouski.

Dawson Theede, Guillaume Brisebois and Vladimir Kuznetsov supplied the rest of the offence for Acadie-Bathurst (25-31-6).

Tyler Boland, Samuel Beck and Hunter Moreau scored for the Oceanic (33-24-6).

FOREURS 2, SAGUENEENS 1

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Alex Pepin scored the winner at 19:45 of the third period as Val-d’Or edged the Sagueneens.

Nathan Tremblay tied the game late in the first for the Foreurs (47-12-4).

Louis-Phlippe Simard had the lone goal for Chicoutimi (29-25-9).
