QMJHL Roundup: Wildcats squeak past Foreurs in shootout

VAL-D’OR, Que. – Cameron Askew and Kelly Klima both scored in the shootout to lift the Moncton Wildcats over the Val-d’Or Foreurs 5-4 on Thursday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Klima also scored in regulation time for Moncton (7-12-0) as did Manuel Wiederer, Adam Holwell and Jonathan Aspirot. Matthew Waite made 36 saves and turned aside two skaters in the shootout for the win.

Waite also stopped Francois Beauchemin on a penalty shot toward the end of the second period.

Adam Cheezo had a hat trick for Val-d’Or (10-9-1) and Nicolas Ouellet also scored. Dereck Baribeau stopped 31 shots in net.

The Wildcats went 1 for 5 on the power play and the Foreurs were 1 for 3 with the man advantage.

ISLANDERS 5 PHOENIX 3

CHARLOTTETOWN — Keith Getson scored and added two assists to lead the Islanders past Sherbrooke.

Chris Chaddock had the winner for Charlottetown (12-7-1), while Matthew Grouchy, Will Thompson and Filip Chlapik chipped in as well.

Carl Neill, Julien Pelletier and Hugo Roy replied for the Phoenix (8-7-3).
