The QMJHL handed down a pair of suspensions on Tuesday for events that took place in a game between the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and the Moncton Wildcats on Nov. 19.
Cape Breton defenceman Sacha Roy received a four-game ban for a head to the hit of Moncton forward Danil Kuzmin.
QMJHL director of player safety Raymond Bolduc gave the following explanation of the suspension in a press release:
• The opponent entered the zone along the boards on the right side at the height of the blue line.
• A Cape Breton player was following him.
• Then the player at fault made a half-pivot and completed his check.
• An opposing player was already checking the opponent.
• There was only one second left in the game and the player at fault’s team was leading by three goals.
• He still decided to finish his check and hit the opponent’s head with his shoulder with force.
• This is not the first offense of the player at fault.
• The opponent was not injured on the play.
Additionally, Wildcats centre Dylan Seitz was given a three-game suspension for slashing a Screaming Eagles player.
Bolduc gave the following explanation of the suspension in a press release:
• A Cape Breton player controlled the puck in the corner and then made a pass to a teammate at the face-off dot.
• He headed towards the net, deked a defenseman and took a shot at the net.
• The player at fault, after attempting to cut the pass, turned towards the front of the goal and slashed with both hands the opponent who was about shoot.
• The slash was given with force and hit the opponent directly on his hand.
• This is the first offense of the player at fault.
• The opponent was injured on the play.
