Val-d’Or Foreurs defenceman David Henley was suspended six games for a high hit on Drummondville Voltigeurs forward Pavel Koltygin.
The hit occurred during a Nov. 11 game.
QMJHL director of player safety Raymond Bolduc gave the following explanation in a press release:
— The puck was sent in the corner to the right of Val-d’Or’s goaltender.
— The opponent went to retrieve it.
— At the same time, the player at fault, who was at the height of the blue line, accelerated and hit the opponent.
— The opponent read the play and saw the player at fault coming before recovering the puck.
— The player at fault took several strides and glided from the bottom of the face-off circle.
— He had a lot of speed and his stick was very high.
— He propelled himself and the contact was simultaneously to the opponent’s body and head.
— The player at fault made no effort to minimize contact.
— It was a dangerous move that could have had serious consequences for the opponent.
— This is not the first offense of the player at fault.
— The opponent was not injured on the play.
