Royals score three unanswered to edge Hitmen

CALGARY – The Victoria Royals scored three consecutive goals in the third period to come from behind and beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Logan Fisher, Tyler Soy and Austin Carroll scored for Victoria (3-4-1), which has picked up five out of a possible six points in its last three games.

Chase Lang scored twice in the first period for Calgary (3-3-1).

Coleman Vollrath turned away 27 shots for the Royals. Mack Shields made 19 saves for the Hitmen.

Victoria scored twice on five power-play opportunities while Calgary was 1 for 7 on its chances.

TIGERS 5, REBELS 1

RED DEER, Alta. — Kyle Becker had two goals and an assist in Medicine Hat’s win over the Rebels.

Tommy Vannelli, Chad Butcher and Alex Mowbray all chipped in offensively for the Tigers (7-1-0).

Nick Charif scored his first goal of the season for Red Deer (3-4-0).

AMERICANS 3, PATS 1

REGINA, Sask. — Parker Bowles scored his fourth goal of the season on the power play to lead Tri-City over the Pats.

Braden Purtill and Jackson Playfair also found the back of the net for the Americans (6-3-0).

Dryden Hunt scored his fourth goal of the year on the power play for Regina (4-3-1).

BRONCOS 5, ICE 0

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Landon Bow made 26 saves to record the shutout for the Broncos in their win over Kootenay.

Jake DeBrusk scored twice and added an assist for Swift Current (5-5-0) while Jay Merkley, Andreas Schumacher and Tanner LeSann rounded out the attack.

Keelan Williams suffered the loss for the Ice (2-6-0), turning aside 22 shots in 40 minutes of work. Wyatt Hoflin played the third period and stopped all five shots he faced.

BLAZERS 3, HURRICANES 1

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Matt Needham had a pair of goals as the Blazers downed Lethbridge.

Jake Kryski scored the go-ahead goal at 4:19 of the second period for Kamloops (6-2-1).

Riley Sheen scored his third of the season on the power play for the Hurricanes (1-5-1) as Stuart Skinner kicked out 35 shots in the loss.

COUGARS 2, GIANTS 1

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Jari Erricson and Tate Olson both struck in the second period as the Cougars edged Vancouver.

Ty Edmonds turned away 31 shots for Prince George (5-4-0) for his fifth win of the season.

Thomas Foster chipped in offensively for the Giants (4-3-0) with Payton Lee making 30 saves in the loss.

THUNDERBIRDS 2, CHIEFS 1 (OT)

SPOKANE, Wash. — Jared Hauff scored his first goal of the season at 1:20 of overtime in Seattle’s come from behind victory over the Chiefs.

Matthew Barzal forced the game into overtime at 17:58 of the third period with a power-play goal for the Thunderbirds (3-3-0).

Dominic Zwerger scored his third goal of the year for Spokane (2-1-2).

SILVERTIPS 6, WINTERHAWKS 2

EVERETT, Wash. — Carson Stadnyk had two goals and an assist to help get the Silvertips past Portland.

Nikita Scherbak, Ben Betker, Ivan Nikolishin and Kohl Bauml rounded out the attack for Everett (4-0-2).

Nicolas Petan had his first goal since being sent back from the NHL for the Winterhawks (1-7-1). Oliver Bjorkstrand also found the back of the net for his third goal of the year.
