Smallman’s SO goal leads Sea Dogs past Eagles

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Spencer Smallman scored in the fifth round of the shootout to lead the Saint John Sea Dogs past the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play on Saturday night.

Adam Marsh paced the offence for the Sea Dogs (11-3-3) with two goals in regulation. Matthew Highmore and Jakub Zboril also scored the Saint John.

Jeremie Beaudin, Phelix Martineau, Clark Bishop and Loik Leveille found the back of the net for the Screaming Eagles (7-9-3).

Bobby Dugan got the win for Saint John, turning aside 36 shots. Francois Brassard earned the first star of the game by making 48 saves for Cape Breton.

The Sea Dogs went 1 for 6 on the power play while the Screaming Eagles went 1 for 1.

PHOENIX 5 DRAKKAR 4 (OT)

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Jeremy Roy scored at 2:32 of overtime as Sherbrooke beat the Drakkar.

Charles-Eric Legare struck twice for the first-place Phoenix (13-5-0) with Time Wieser and Kay Schweri also picking up goals.

Maxime St-Cyr had two goals for Baie-Comeau (12-5-2) while Bokondji Imama and Dzmitry Ambrozheichik rounded out the attack.

CATARACTES 5 OCEANIC 4 (OT)

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Sebastien Gauthier found the back of the net at 3:14 of overtime as the Cataractes edged Rimouski.

Dennis Yan, Giovanni Fiore, Alexis D’Aoust and Anthony Beauvillier also chipped in for Shawinigan (9-9-2).

Michael Joly had two goals for the Oceanic (13-5-2) with Simon Tremblay and Christopher Clapperton also scoring.

FOREURS 5 TITAN 2

VAL-d’OR, Que. — Nicolas Aube-Kubel had a goal and an assist to go along with his plus-three rating for the Foreurs in their win over Acadie-Bathurst.

Julien Gauthier, Jeremie Fraser, Olivier Galipeau and Pierre-Maxime Poudrier supplied the rest of the Val-d’Or (6-11-1) offence.

Egor Popov and Nicholas Blanchard each had a goal for the Titan (5-13-1).

MOOSEHEADS 3 WILDCATS 2

HALIFAX — Philippe Gadoury struck twice in the third period for the Mooseheads in their victory against Moncton.

Danny Moynihan scored at 19:45 of the first period to round out Halifax’s (6-10-2) attack.

Jacob Sweeney and Stephen Johnson both replied in the third period for the Wildcats (10-8-0).

VOLTIGEURS 2 TIGRES 1 (SO)

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Marc-Antoine Bouillon had the deciding shootout goal as the Voltigeurs slipped past Victoriaville.

Matthew Boucher scored his first of the year for Drummondville (9-6-2) in the first period.

Filip Pyrochta found the back of the net 35 seconds into the game for the Tigres (9-5-3).

ARMADA 4 REMPARTS 2

QUEBEC, Que. — Danick Martel had two special-teams goals, one short-handed and one on the power play, to lead Blainville-Boisbriand past the Remparts.

Philippe Sanche and Colin MacSween also scored for the Armada (9-6-2).

Raphael Maheux and Adam Erne both chipped in for Quebec (12-6-0).

OLYMPIQUES 6 HUSKIES 5

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Alex Dostie and Yakov Trenin both recorded two goals as Gatineau held on to beat the Huskies.

Jonathan Bourcier and Alexis Pepin rounded out the attack for the Olympiques (9-7-4).

Mathieu Lemay struck twice for Rouyn-Noranda (10-8-0), with Jean-Christophe Beaudin, Ryan Penny and Francis Perron also scoring.
