Oceanic’s Desrosiers sets QMJHL shutout streak

BOUCHERVILLE, Que. — Goaltender Philippe Desrosiers of the Rimouski Oceanic has broken a shutout record that was only three months old in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Desrosiers’ 31-save performance in a 5-0 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres Monday extended his run without allowing a goal to 213 minutes 15 seconds.

That topped the previous mark of 212:10 set in November by Francois Brassard of the Quebec Remparts. Brassard had bettered the run of 207:04 posted in 1997-98 by Mathieu Chouinard of the Shawinigan Cataractes.

The 18-year-old Desrosiers, picked 54th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2013 NHL draft, can extend his string if he plays Wednesday against the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
