The struggling Oshawa Generals continue to strip down their roster.

Matt Mistele, the Generals’ leading goal scorer in last year’s playoffs, has been traded to the Sarnia Sting in exchange for a second round pick in 2016 and a third round pick in both 2017 and 2018.

Mistele was instrumental in the Generals’ run to the 2015 Memorial Cup, leading his team with 13 goals in 21 post-season games.

Oshawa is now in full re-build mode, having already traded Stephen Desrocher last month, the team’s No. 1 defenceman, for a package of draft picks.

Mistele had a career season last year, scoring 64 points in 60 games. So far this season, the 20-year-old has produced 16 points in 19 games for a Generals team labouring to get wins.

“We feel as though he will be a great addition to our club, bringing a wealth experience to our dressing room,” the Sting’s general manager Nick Sinclair said in a press release. “We’re adding a guy who’s played over 200 games in this league, won a Memorial Cup Championship, and is a proven 35-plus goal scorer.”

Drafted in the second round, 33rd overall, by the Los Angeles Kings in 2014, the Whitby, Ont., native has 278 OHL games under his belt in which he has recorded 210 points.

This will be the second time this year that the OHL veteran is traded, having been acquired by Oshawa in January from the Plymouth Whalers.

The Sting are second in the West Division with a 13-10-2-0 record.
