Tambellini scores in OT to lead Hitmen past Tigers

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. – Adam Tambellini scored his sixth goal of the season at 3:08 of overtime to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 2-1 victory over the first-place Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night in Western Hockey League play.

Mack Shields was solid in net for the Hitmen, making 40 saves to help secure the win.

Travis Sanheim had a first-period goal for Calgary (5-3-1).

Chad Butcher responded for the Tigers (8-1-1) with his eighth goal on the year.

Marek Langhamer suffered the loss, turning aside 17 shots.

The Hitmen failed to scored on four power-play chances while Medicine Hat did not score on two power plays.

WHEAT KINGS 8 BRONCOS 3

BRANDON, Man. — Ivan Provorov struck twice and added an assist in the Wheat Kings’ win over Swift Current.

Duncan Campbell also had two goals for Brandon (7-2-1). Jesse Gabrielle, Rihards Bukarts, Braylon Shmyr and Tim McGauley rounded out the offence.

Jake DeBrusk, Carter Rigby and Coda Gordon chipped in for the Broncos (6-6-1).

EDMONTON — Blake Orban and Edgars Kulda both scored in the first five minutes of the game as the Oil Kings beat Prince Albert.

Brandon Ralph added an empty-net goal for Edmonton (6-3-0).

Reid Gardiner replied with his sixth of the season for the Raiders (3-6-0).

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Wyatt Hoflin turned away 34 shots to record his first shutout of the season for Kootenay against Regina.

Troy Murray scored on the power play 33 seconds into the second period for the Ice (3-6-0).

Daniel Wapple stopped 15 shots for the Pats (4-4-1) in the loss.

WINTERHAWKS 6 WARRIORS 2

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Oliver Bjorkstrand found the back of the net twice and added an assist as Portland downed the Warriors.

Dominic Turgeon also had two goals for the Winterhawks (2-7-2) while Alex Schoenborn and Layne Viveiros rounded out the attack.

Brayden Point and Brett Howden responded for Moose Jaw (5-4-1).

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Axel Blomqvist struck twice, including a goal in the third period, to secure Victoria’s win over the Hurricanes.

Jack Walker and Tyler Soy also had a goal for the Royals (5-6-1).

Tyler Wong and Giorgio Estephan replied with second-period goals for Lethbridge (1-7-1).

SASKATOON — Alex Forsberg scored short handed at 18:15 of the second period to help lead the Blades by Red Deer.

Landon Welykholowa and Sam McKechnie also chipped in for Saskatoon (3-6-0).

Conner Bleackley and Brett Cote each had a goal for the Rebels (3-6-1).

SPOKANE, Wash. — Riley Stadel and Madison Bowey scored 59 seconds apart to open the second period for Kelowna in their win over the Chiefs.

Austin Glover chipped in with his fifth of the year for the undefeated Rockets (10-0-0).

Adam Helewka and Calder Brooks each had a goal and an assist for Spokane (4-2-2) in the loss.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Parker Wotherspoon and Vladislav Lukin each scored in the shootout to lead Tri-City past Everett.

Lucas Nickles, Dylan Coghlan, Beau McCue and Parker Bowles all found the back of the net for the Americans (7-4-0).

Patrick Bajkov, Kohl Bauml, Graham Millar and Cole MacDonald responded for the Silvertips (5-0-3).

VANCOUVER — Payton Lee kicked out 23 shots to record his first shutout of the year for the Giants against Kamloops.

Dmitry Osipov and Tyler Benson both scored on the power play while Arvin Atwal also had a goal for Vancouver (5-4-0).

Cole Kehler made 28 saves for the Blazers (6-5-1) in the loss.

COUGARS 3 THUNDERBIRDS 1

KENT, Wash. — Jansen Harkins had a goal and an assist for Prince George in their victory over the Thunderbirds.

Jari Erricson and Chance Braid supplied the rest of the Cougars’ (7-4-0) offence.

Keegan Kolesar scored at 19:59 of the third period for Seattle (4-5-1) to spoil the shutout bid.
