In an under-16 contest Saturday that featured no less than 39 penalties –my goodness, imagine if they weren’t using replacement refs — one dramatic moment overshadowed all of the other shenanigans.
“With 17 minutes and 51 seconds left in the second period, 11, Taylor Cox, after scoring the second goal of the game with the assist from 54, Cameron Bregenzer, celebrated by jumping into the glass around the rink, which shattered as he hit it,” describes the New Jersey Junior Titans’ website. “The celebration gone wrong was caught on video and made the entire team proud. The game was then delay(ed) in order to clean up the shattered glass. The crowd went wild, enjoying the show, once they were certain Cox was uninjured. But from looking at the video, Cox is not only uninjured, he is also unabashed by the fall and continues to celebrate while walking to the bench.”
Cox’s goal would prove to be the game-winner, as the Titans went on to defeat the New Jersey Rockets 4-1 and earn the 15-year-olds 15 seconds of ESPN fame.
