Watson, Marner help CHL clinch Canada Russia Series

Mitch Marner drew the penalty before assisting on Spencer Watson's game-winning goal as the OHL All Stars defeated the Russian Selects 2-1 on Monday.

WINDSOR, Ont. — Jordan Kyrou and Spencer Watson both scored in the second period as Team OHL rallied past Russia for a 2-1 victory on Monday in the fourth exhibition game between the Canadian Hockey League and the team of Russian all-stars.


Kyrou tied the game 1-1 for Team OHL 9:12 into the second and Watson scored the eventual winner on the power play less than two minutes later. Michael McNiven and Dylan Wells split time in net for the team of Ontario Hockey League all-stars.


Kirill Pilipenko’s power-play goal 7:27 into the game gave Russia a 1-0 lead. Alexander Trushkov stopped 36 shots in net.

Team OHL scored on one of its three power plays, while the Russians went 1 for 5 with the man advantage.

Game 5 of the six-game series is on Tuesday in Rouyn-Noranda, Que., as a team of players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League take on the Russians.

Russia has lost all four games of the series so far.
