WHL: Leschyshyn’s three-point effort helps Pats to win over Raiders

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Jake Leschyshyn scored twice and set up one more as the Regina Pats doubled up the host Prince Albert Raiders 4-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Lane Zablocki also scored for the Pats (1-0-1) while Braydon Buziak’s goal at 17:01 of the second period stood up as the winner.

Austin Glover scored and also assisted on Kolten Olynek’s goal early in the second that put the Raiders (1-1-0) ahead 2-1.

Regina’s Jordan Hollett made 28 saves for the win as Ian Scott kicked out 41-of-44 shots for Prince Albert.

The Pats went 1 for 3 on the power play while also adding another goal shorthanded. The Raiders scored once on seven chances with the man advantage.

OIL KINGS 4 REBELS 3 (SO)

EDMONTON — Lane Bauer scored in regulation and the shootout as the Oil Kings edged Red Deer.

Trey Fix-Wolansky and Tyler Robertson also scored for Edmonton (2-0-0). Patrick Dea made 24 saves for the win.

D-Jay Jerome had a pair of goals for the Rebels (0-0-2) and assisted on another from Evan Polei. Trevor Martin stopped 41 shots to help his team earn a point.

HITMEN 2 ICE 1 (OT)

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Micheal Zipp scored the winner at 4:18 of overtime as Calgary slipped past the Ice.

Andrew Fyten also scored for the Hitmen (2-0-0), who got a 33-save effort from Kyle Dumba.

Cale Fleury was the only Kootenay (0-0-2) skater to beat Dumba. Payton Lee stopped 36-of-38 shots in defeat.

TIGERS 9 HURRICANES 3

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Zach Fischer had a hat trick and Chad Butcher added a goal and five assists as the Tigers hammered Lethbridge.

Mark Rassell had two goals and an assist while Matt Bradley, James Hamblin and Max Gerlach each scored once to round out the Medicine Hat (1-1-0) offence. Duncan McGovern made 15 saves for the win.

Zane Franklin, Kord Pankewicz and Josh Tarzwell supplied the scoring for the Hurricanes (1-1-0). Stuart Skinner allowed six goals on 34 shots through two periods of work. Ryan Gilchrist made 11 saves in relief.

The game got chippy in the third period, with a combined eight game misconducts being handed out at the 8:50 mark for fighting. The two teams combined for 192 penalty minutes.

WINTERHAWKS 7 THUNDERBIRDS 3

PORTLAND, Ore. — Ryan Hughes had a goal and two helpers and Michael Bullion made 27 saves as the Winterhawks beat Seattle.

Portland (1-0-0) also got goals from Alex Overhardt, Keoni Texeira, Brendan De Jong, Skyler McKenzie and Brad Ginnell.

Donovan Neuls struck twice for the Thunderbirds (0-1-0), who also got a goal from Luke Ormsby. Rylan Toth turned away 28-of-34 shots in a losing cause.

SILVERTIPS 3 GIANTS 1

EVERETT, Wash. — Matt Fonteyne’s goal at 18:17 of the second period stood up as the winner as the Silvertips got by Vancouver.

Graham Millar and Brett Kemp also scored for Everett (2-0-0) while Lasse Petersen only had to make 12 saves for the win.

Jack Flaman was the lone scorer for the Giants (0-2-0), who got a 28-save outing from Ryan Kubic.

ROCKETS 5 BLAZERS 1

KELOWNA, B.C. — Riley Stadel had a pair of goals and Michael Herringer made 25 saves as the Rockets toppled Kamloops.

Jordan Borstmayer, Jonathan Smart and Tanner Wishnowski also found the back of the net for Kelowna (1-1-0).

Rudolfs Balcers scored late for the Blazers (1-1-0). Dylan Ferguson turned away 12-of-14 shots in the first period before giving way to Carter Phair, who made 16 saves in 40 minutes of relief.

AMERICANS 8 CHIEFS 3

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Michael Rasmussen had four goals, including a natural hat trick in the first period, and Vladislav Lukin had three goals and six points as Tri-City defeated Spokane.

Morgan Geekie rounded out the attack for Tri-City (1-0-0) as Beck Warm made 24 saves for the win.

Keanu Yamamoto, with two goals, and Kailer Yamamoto supplied the offence for the Chiefs (0-1-0). Both finished with three points. Jayden Sittler kicked out 21 shots in defeat.

COUGARS 5 ROYALS 1

VICTORIA — Kody McDonald struck twice while Jared Bethune and Brad Morrison each had four assists as Prince George downed the Royals.

Justin Almeida, Ryan Schoettler and Colby McAuley supplied the rest of the offence for the Cougars (2-0-0). Nick McBride had 36 saves for the win.

Ethan Price kept Victoria (0-2-0) from being shutout. Griffen Outhouse allowed three goals on six shots in 9:09 of action and found himself on the bench. Dylan Myskiw made 20 saves the rest of the way.

WARRIORS 2 WHEAT KINGS 1 (SUSPENDED)

BRANDON, Man. — The WHL postponed the finish of the game between the Wheat Kings (0-0-1) and Moose Jaw (1-0-0) due to safety concerns regarding fog on the playing surface. A date to conclude the game has yet to be determined.
