EVERETT, Wash. – Remi Laurencelle scored twice as the Everett Silvertips used an early lead to beat the Portland Winterhawks 5-3 on Friday night in Game 1 of their Western Hockey League second-round playoff series.
Kohl Bauml opened the scoring for the Silvertips, before Laurencelle added the next two for a three-goal lead. Patrick Bajkov and Jake Mykitiuk also scored while Cole MacDonald had three assists.
Miles Koules, Alex Schoenborn and Dominic Turgeon supplied the offence for Portland.
Carter Hart turned aside 27 shots for the win in net. Adin Hill made 16 saves for the Winterhawks.
Everett went 1 for 2 on the power play while Portland was scoreless on one opportunity.
The Silvertips host Game 2 on Saturday.

WHEAT KINGS 5, PATS 1
BRANDON, Man. — Jayce Hawryluk had a goal and an assist as the Wheat Kings took Game 1 of their second-round playoff series over Regina.
Ivan Provorov, John Quenneville, Tim McGauley and Duncan Campbell also scored for Brandon.
Taylor Cooper found the back of the net in the second period for the Pats.
The Wheat Kings host Game 2 on Saturday.

HITMEN 3, TIGERS 1
MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Chase Lang had a goal and two assists as Calgary beat the Tigers in Game 1 of its second-round playoff matchup.
Jake Virtanen and Connor Rankin scored in the first period for the Hitmen.
Dryden Hunt also had a goal in the first for Medicine Hat.
Calgary hosts Game 2 on Sunday.

KELOWNA, B.C. — Jackson Whistle stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Rockets took Game 1 of their second-round playoff series by blanking Victoria.
Cole Martin, Rourke Chartier, Tomas Soustal, Gage Quinney and Tyson Baillie scored for Kelowna, which hosts Game 2 on Saturday.
Coleman Vollrath turned aside 39 shots for the Royals in the loss.
