WHL: Rockets score 4 unanswered to beat Oil Kings

EDMONTON — Cole Linaker struck twice in the third period to lead Kelowna past the Oil Kings.

Rourke Chartier, Kole Lind and Calvin Thurkauf supplied the rest of the offence for the Rockets (3-1-0), who had four consecutive goals to finish the game.

Lane Bauer had a pair of goals for Edmonton (0-2-1), with Brandon Baddock also scoring.

ICE 5, CHIEFS 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Luke Philp had two goals and an assist as the Kootenay Ice beat the Spokane Chiefs 5-2 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Zak Zborosky also scored twice for the Ice (1-2-0) in their first win of the season. Jon Martin chipped in with a goal and assist while Cale Fleury tacked on three assists.

Keanu Yamamoto and Dominic Zwerger found the back of the net for Spokane (1-1-0).

Keelan Williams turned aside 35 shots for the win in net. Garret Hughson started for the Chiefs but was pulled after kicking out 14-of-18 shots in 34:53. Tyson Verhelst went the rest of the way, making 12 saves.

Kootenay scored twice on four power-play chances while Spokane was scoreless on five opportunities.

HITMEN 3 WHEAT KINGS 2

BRANDON, Man. — Terrell Draude had the winner on the power play as Calgary hung on to beat the Wheat Kings.

Jake Bean also had a power-play goal for the Hitmen (3-0-0) in the third period while Radel Fazleev added a short-handed goal in the second.

Colton Waltz and Macoy Erkamps tried to rally Brandon (1-1-1) with goals in the third, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Wheat Kings forward Rihards Bukarts received a major penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind at 17:40 of the second period.

REBELS 5 BRONCOS 1

RED DEER, Alta. — Ivan Nikolishin scored twice and added an assist as the Rebels downed Swift Current.

Conner Bleackley, Grayson Pawlenchuk and Michael Spacek rounded out the attack for Red Deer (3-0-0).

Jake DeBrusk had a short-handed goal for the Broncos (1-2-0) in the first period.

RAIDERS 5 GIANTS 4 (SO)

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Reid Gardiner scored the only goal of the shootout and added another in regulation as the Raiders slipped past Vancouver.

Simon Stransky, Sean Montgomery and Luke Coleman had the others for Prince Albert (2-1-0).

Alec Baer forced extra time with a goal at 19:25 of the third period. Dakota Odgers, Jackson Houck and Jesse Roach supplied the rest of the offence for the Giants (2-1-0).

TIGERS 3 BLADES 2 (OT)

SASKATOON — Steven Owre had the winner 2:32 into overtime as Medicine Hat edged the Blades.

Mason Shaw and Chad Butcher also found the back of the net for the Tigers (2-1-0).

Ryan Graham and Nikita Soshnin scored for Saskatoon (1-0-2).

ROYALS 4 BLAZERS 2

VICTORIA — Tyler Soy struck twice as the Royals remained undefeated by doubling up Kamloops.

Chaz Reddekopp also had a pair of goals for Victoria (3-0-0).

Jake Kryski and Nolan Kneen scored for the Blazers (0-3-0).
