WHL Roundup: Blades beat Ice, extend win streak to 7 games

SASKATOON – Gage Ramsay scored twice as the Saskatoon Blades extended their win streak to seven games with a 4-2 victory over the Kootenay Ice on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Cameron Hebig had a goal and two assists while Ramsay tacked on a helper for a three-point night for the Blades (21-17-3), who got the winner late in the first period from Josh Paterson.

Keenan Taphorn and Brett Davis found the back of the net for the Ice (18-21-3), losers of five straight.

Nolan Maier made 27 saves for the win. Duncan McGovern combined with Bailey Brkin to stop 28 shots in a losing cause.

Saskatoon went 0 for 2 on the power play while Kootenay failed to score on its lone chance with the man advantage.

RAIDERS 2 REBELS 1 (OT)

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Kody McDonald scored the winner at 1:08 of overtime as the Raiders handed Red Deer its seventh loss in a row.

Vojtech Budik also scored for Prince Albert (15-17-8), which got an 18-save outing from Curtis Meger.

Reese Johnson forced extra time for the Rebels (10-21-9). Ethan Anders stopped 33 shots in defeat.

BRONCOS 4 PATS 2

SWIFT CURRENT, Alta. — Kaden Elder and Matteo Gennaro both struck twice as the Broncos snapped Regina’s four-game win streak.

Gennaro supplied the winner at 15:15 of the third for the Broncos (28-10-3). Logan Flodell turned aside 33 shots for the win.

Bryan Lockner and Nick Henry scored for the Pats (20-19-3). Jacob Wasserman combined with Tyler Brown for 24 saves in defeat.

WARRIORS 7 OIL KINGS 2

EDMONTON — Jayden Halbgewachs and Justin Almeida each scored twice as league-leading Moose Jaw toppled the last-place Oil Kings.

Luka Burzan, Tanner Jeannot and Tate Popple also scored for the Warriors (33-6-3), who are 7-0-1 in their last eight. Brody Willms made 16 saves for the win.

Davis Koch and Trey Fix-Wolansky responded for Edmonton (10-24-6). Josh Dechaine kicked out 25 shots in a losing cause.

Moose Jaw’s Matthew Benson was given a major penalty and game misconduct for checking to the head at 3:23 of the third period.

HITMEN 6 HURRICANES 1

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Andrew Fyten had a pair of goals and Jameson Murray scored once and added two assists as the Hitmen got by Lethbridge.

Luke Coleman, Jameson Murray, Riley Stotts and Cael Zimmerman also scored for the Hitmen (13-21-6) while Nick Schneider made 37 saves for the win.

Jordy Bellerive kept the Hurricanes (17-19-3) from being blanked. Stuart Skinner allowed five goals on 17 shots in 28:53 of work to take the loss.

GIANTS 5 TIGERS 3

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Dawson Holt scored twice as Vancouver downed the Tigers for its fifth win in six games.

Ty Ronning, Brad Morrison and Brayden Watts also scored for the Giants (23-14-5). Todd Scott mad 23 saves for the win.

Tyler Preziuso, Ryan Chyzowski and Gary Haden supplied the offence for Medicine Hat (22-16-3). Jordan Hollett stopped 25 shots in defeat.

ROYALS 5 BLAZERS 4 (OT)

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Chaz Reddekopp scored the winner 23 seconds into overtime to lift Victoria over the Blazers.

Matthew Phillips had a goal and two helpers while Tyler Soy, Dino Kambeitz and Jared Freadrich also scored for the Royals (23-15-4). Griffen Outhouse turned away 32 shots for the win.

Kamloops’ (17-19-3) goals came from Nick Chyzowski, Garrett Pilon, Travis Walton and Joe Gatenby. Dylan Ferguson made 30 saves in a losing cause.

WINTERHAWKS 4 SILVERTIPS 3

EVERETT, Wash. — Jake Gricius scored his second goal of the night at 19:21 of the third as Portland slipped past the Silvertips to snap a three-game skid.

Ryan Hughes and Ilijah Colina also scored for the Winterhawks (23-13-3). Cole Kehler made 36 saves for the victory.

Matt Fonteyne led Everett (23-16-2) with two goals while Wyatte Wylie had the other. Dustin Wolf stopped 34 shots for the loss.

AMERICANS 6 COUGARS 5 (SO)

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Parker AuCoin scored twice in regulation, then added the shootout winner as Tri-City edged the Cougars.

Sasha Mutala, Jordan Topping and Maxwell James also scored while Beck Warm made 38 saves for the Americans (21-12-5).

Jared Bethune, Aaron Boyd, Jackson Leppard, Dennis Cholowski and Max Kryski scored for Prince George (15-18-7). Tavis Grant stopped 34 shots in defeat.

THUNDERBIRDS 4 CHIEFS 1

KENT, Wash. — Donovan Neuls scored twice and Liam Hughes turned aside 39 shots as Seattle beat Spokane for its seventh win in eight outings.

Jarret Tyszka and Matthew Wedman also scored for the Thunderbirds (20-14-5).

Jaret Anderson-Dolan replied for the Chiefs (21-16-3). Dawson Weatherill kicked out 29 shots in defeat.
