SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – Glenn Gawdin and Matteo Gennaro did everything they could to inch Swift Current up in the Western Hockey League standings.
Gawdin and Gennaro scored 28 seconds apart in the third period to force overtime, then they both scored in the shootout as the Broncos came from behind to beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 on Wednesday.
The victory extends Swift Current’s win streak to six games and moves the second-place Broncos to within three points of league-leading Moose Jaw.
Max Patterson and Kaden Elder also scored for the Broncos (26-7-2) while Gennaro tacked on two assists for a three-point night.
Justin Almeida led the Warriors (27-6-3) with a pair of goals. Brayden Burke and Tanner Jeannot had the others.
Logan Flodell kicked out 34 shots for the win as Brody Willms made 23 saves in defeat.
The Broncos went 1 for 3 on the power play while the Warriors scored twice on five chances with the man advantage.

BRANDON, Man. — Evan Weinger scored the winner at 7:55 of the third period as the Wheat Kings handed Regina its fifth straight defeat.
Stelio Mattheos, Cole Reinhardt, Ty Lewis and Linden McCorrister also scored for Brandon (25-8-1), which got 27 saves from Logan Thompson.
Robbie Holmes had a pair of goals while Logan Nijhoff also scored for the Pats (16-18-3). Max Paddock turned aside 30 shots in a losing cause.

Alexander Alexeyev kept Red Deer (10-19-6) from being blanked. Ethan Anders stopped 30 shots in a losing cause.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — David Quenneville scored twice and assisted on James Hamblin’s winner late in the third to lift the Tigers over Lethbridge.
