RED DEER, Alta. — Calvin Spencer struck twice in regulation and Taz Burman made 42 saves as the Swift Current Broncos edged the Red Deer Rebels 5-4 in a shootout on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.
Jon Martin scored the deciding goal in the shootout for Swift Current (15-26-5), which won its third in a row. Austin Adamson and Glenn Gawdin also found the back of the net.
Adam Helewka, Adam Musil, Conner Bleackley and Colton Bobyk supplied the offence for the Rebels (30-15-3).
Rylan Toth kicked out 8-of-12 shots in 40 minutes of work for Red Deer before giving way to Trevor Martin. Martin stopped all nine shots through the third period and overtime, but still took the loss.
Lane Pederson of the Broncos was assessed a game misconduct late in the first period after a major penalty for boarding.
Swift Current went 2 for 5 on the power play while the Rebels scored once on two chances.
