WHL Roundup: Duke, Wheat Kings crush Raiders

BRANDON, Man. — Reid Duke had a goal and five assists to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to an 8-1 rout of the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Ivan Provorov and Tim McGauley both scored twice and added two assists for the Wheat Kings (25-12-4). Ty Lewis, John Quenneville and Nolan Patrick rounded out the attack while Macoy Erkamps tacked on three helpers.

Drew Warkentine had the lone goal for Prince Albert (23-14-4) in the first period.

Jordan Papirny made 26 saves for the win in net. Ian Scott kicked out 10-of-14 shots in 20:54 for the Raiders before giving way to Rylan Parenteau, who stopped 17 shots in relief.

Brandon was 3 for 6 on the power play, with Prince Albert going scoreless on three opportunities.

TIGERS 3 BLADES 1

SASKATOON — David Quenneville scored twice in the third period, including once on the power play, as Medicine Hat got past the Blades.

Matt Bradley had the other for the Tigers (15-21-4), who scored all their goals in the third.

Cameron Hebig opened the scoring with a power-play goal midway through the first for Saskatoon (15-22-3).

GIANTS 5 HITMEN 2

CALGARY — Ty Ronning struck twice as Vancouver toppled the Hitmen.

Chase Lang, Brennan Menell and Carter Popoff supplied the rest of the offence for the Giants (16-21-5).

Keegan Kanzig and Aaron Hyman scored for Calgary (25-16-2).

HURRICANES 4 REBELS 3 (SO)

RED DEER, Alta. — Egor Babenko scored the only goal of the shootout and added another in regulation as Lethbridge slipped past the Rebels for its third-straight win.

Tyler Wong and Justin Gutierrez also found the back of the net in regulation for the Hurricanes (29-12-0).

Michael Spacek, Reese Johnson and Adam Helewka supplied the offence for Red Deer (28-13-1).

Evan Polei of the Rebels was ejected midway through the first period after receiving a major penalty for kneeing.

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Matt Alfaro struck twice as the Ice beat Regina.

Tanner Lishchynsky and Austin Wellsby had a goal and two assists for Kootenay (8-31-3). Noah Philp had the other.

Adam Brooks, Connor Hobbs and Colton Kroeker found the back of the net for the Pats (17-18-6).

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Ty Edmonds stopped all 41 shots he faced as the Cougars shut out Victoria.

Jesse Gabrielle scored the lone goal for Prince George (25-14-2) early in the third period.

Griffen Outhouse turned away 37 shots for the Royals (24-15-4).

BLAZERS 3 AMERICANS 2

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Matt Needham scored a hat trick as the Blazers edged Tri-City.

Deven Sideroff assisted on all three of Needham’s goals for Kamloops (19-14-6).

Dylan Coghlan and Beau McCue supplied the offence for the Americans (17-22-2).

SILVERTIPS 3 ROCKETS 2 (OT)

KELOWNA, B.C. — Cole MacDonald scored 2:10 into overtime as Everett slipped past the Rockets.

Remi Laurencelle had two goals and an assist in regulation for the Silvertips (23-12-2), who won their fourth in a row.

Rourke Chartier and Tyson Baillie chipped in for Kelowna (28-11-2).

THUNDERBIRDS 3 WINTERHAWKS 1

KENT, Wash. — Nolan Volcan and Cavin Leth scored in the second period as the Thunderbirds snapped Portland’s three-game winning streak.

Ethan Bear had the other for Seattle (21-14-3).

Colton Veloso responded in the third period for the Winterhawks (20-18-1).
