WHL Roundup: Estephan powers Hurricanes past Wheat Kings in OT

BRANDON, Man. — Giorgio Estephan scored in overtime as the Lethbridge Hurricanes edged the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-2 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League action.

Ryan Vandervlis and Alec Baer had goals in regulation time as the Hurricanes (40-17-7) won their fourth straight. Stuart Skinner made 32 saves in net.

Tyler Coulter and Nolan Patrick supplied the offence for the Wheat Kings (28-26-10), who are winless in sixth. Logan Thompson stopped 36 shots.

Lethbridge went 1 for 6 on the power play and Brandon could not score on its two man advantages.

TIGERS 6 RAIDERS 5 (OT)

PRINCE ALBERT, Sak. — Steven Owre completed Medicine Hat’s comeback with an overtime goal as Medicine Hat slipped past the Raiders.

John Dahlstrom and Mark Rassell also scored late in the third period as the Tigers (45-18-1) rallied from a two-goal deficit. Rassell had a short-handed goal in the second, while Mason Shaw and Matt Bradley chipped in as well.

Cavin Leth struck twice for the Raiders (17-40-7). Curtis Miske, Parker Kelly and D-Jay Jerome found the back of the net.

BLAZERS 5 THUNDERBIRDS 4 (OT)

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Deven Sideroff had his second goal of the night in overtime as the Blazers eked out a win over Seattle.

Garrett Pilon, Luc Smith and Dallas Valentine scored in regulation time for Kamloops (38-21-6).

Ryan Gropp and Keegan Kolesar had two goals each for the Thunderbirds (40-18-6).

WARRIORS 4 HITMEN 3

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Yan Khomenko’s goal near the midway point of the third period was the winner as the Warriors topped Calgary.

Brett Howden, Tanner Jeannot and Jayden Halbgewachs staked Moose Jaw (39-17-8) to a 3-0 lead. The Warriors have won seven straight games.

Jake Kryski, Matteo Gennaro and Brady Reagan replied for the Hitmen (24-29-10).

ICE 5 OIL KINGS 2

EDMONTON — Colton Kroeker scored and added three assists as Kootenay downed the Oil Kings.

Vince Loschiavo had a goal and set up two more for the Ice (14-38-10) and Dallas Hines had the winner. Cale Fleury and Brett Davis chipped in as well.

Davis Koch and Conner McDonald responded for Edmonton (20-39-5).

WINTERHAWKS 5 GIANTS 1

LANGLEY, B.C. — Keegan Iverson and Jake Gricius had two goals apiece to lead Portland past Vancouver.

Matt Revel scored into an empty net for the Winterhawks (33-26-4).

Matt Barberis had the only goal for the Giants (19-40-5), who have dropped four in a row.

ROCKETS 5 COUGARS 1

KELOWNA, B.C. — Calvin Thurkauf had a pair of goals as the Rockets blasted Prince George.

Kyle Topping had the eventual winner for Kelowna (38-21-5), while Nick Merkley and Dillon Dube added power-play goals

Radovan Bondra was the lone scorer for the Cougars (40-20-5).

CHIEFS 4 SILVERTIPS 1

EVERETT, Wash. — Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Keanu Yamamoto both had power-play goals as Spokane skated past the Silvertips.

Kailer Yamamoto had the winner as the Chiefs (26-27-9) snapped a three-game losing skid. Riley Woods put the puck into an empty net.

Riley Sutter’s power-play goal was all Everett (38-14-10) could muster.
