WHL Roundup: Glass scores two, Winterhawks take down Oil Kings

EDMONTON – Cole Kehler made 22 saves as the Portland Winterhawks extended their win streak to 10 games, defeating the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-0 on Saturday in Western Hockey League play.

Cody Glass scored twice while also setting up a goal from Skyler McKenzie for the Winterhawks (19-4-0).

Travis Child stopped 30-of-32 shots as the Oil Kings (5-17-2) watched their losing streak hit 11 games.

Portland went 2 for 3 on the power play while Edmonton failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

HITMEN 2 REBELS 1 (OT)

CALGARY — Mark Kastelic scored the winner 30 seconds into overtime as the Hitmen edged Red Deer to snap a seven-game losing streak.

Jake Kryski also scored for the Calgary (7-14-4) while Nick Schneider turned away 24 shots for the win.

Brandon Hagel responded for the Rebels (9-15-2), who have dropped five in a row. Ethan Anders made 20 saves in a losing cause.

RAIDERS 3 WARRIORS 2 (SO)

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Curtis Meger stopped 31 shots in regulation and overtime, and another three in the shootout as Prince Albert slipped past the Warriors to halt a four-game skid.

Jordy Stallard and Eric Pearce scored 2:26 apart in the second period for the Raiders (10-10-4), with Stallard eventually adding the shoootout winner.

Jayden Halbgewachs forced overtime when he scored at 19:52 of the third period. Luka Burzan also scored for Moose Jaw (19-6-0), which got 30 saves from Brady Willms.

WHEAT KINGS 3 BRONCOS 2 (OT)

SWIFT CURRENT, Alta. — Ty Lewis scored at 2:49 of overtime and Logan Thompson made 46 saves as Brandon beat the Broncos.

Baron Thompson and Caiden Daley also scored for the Wheat Kings (15-7-1).

Tyler Steenbergen and Aleksi Heponiemi responded for Swift Current (17-5-2). Logan Flodell made 24 saves in defeat.

HURRICANES 3 ICE 0

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Stuart Skinner stopped all 47 shots his way as Lethbridge blanked the Ice for its third win in a row.

Ryan Vandervlis, Jordy Bellerive and Jake Elmer supplied the offence for the Hurricanes (10-12-1).

Duncan McGovern kicked out 20-of-23 shots for Kootenay (11-14-1).

BLAZERS 4 COUGARS 3

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Brodi Stuart had a goal and two helpers and Dylan Ferguson made 38 saves as the Blazers downed Prince George for a fourth straight victory.

Luc Smith, Garrett Pilon and Quinn Benjafield also scored for Kamloops (11-13-0).

Josh Curtis, Dennis Cholowski and Chance Adrian found the back of the net for the Cougars (9-12-4). Tavis Grant made 26 saves in defeat.

ROCKETS 4 TIGERS 0

KELOWNA, B.C. — Roman Basran made 38 saves and Carsen Twarynski had a goal and two assists as the Rockets shut out Medicine Hat.

Liam Kindree, Dillon Dube, and James Hilsendager also scored for the Kelowna (14-8-3).

Jordan Hollett combined with Michael Bullion for 12 saves for the Tigers (15-9-0).

SILVERTIPS 5 GIANTS 2

EVERETT, Wash. — Carter Hart turned away 22 shots as the Silvertips toppled Vancouver for their third win in a row.

Patrick Bajkov, Wyatte Wylie, Gianni Fairbrother, Riley Sutter and Bryce Kindopp supplied the goals for Everett (13-12-2).

Tyler Benson and Dylan Plouffe scored for the Giants (10-12-4). David Tendeck made 31 saves in defeat.

ROYALS 2 THUNDERBIRDS 1

VICTORIA — Jared Freadrich scored the winner at 2:49 of the third period as the Royals downed Seattle.

Dino Kambeitz also scored for the Victoria (18-8-1) while Griffen Outhouse turned away 36 shots for the win.

Noah Philp scored for the Thunderbirds (11-11-2). Dorrin Luding made 16 saves in a losing cause.

Seattle’s Austin Strand was given a major and game misconduct for charging early in the third period.

CHIEFS 7 PATS 3

SPOKANE, Wash. — Ty Smith scored once and set up two more as the Chiefs beat Regina.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Eli Zummack, Riley Woods, Hudson Elynuik, Zach Fischer and Carter Chorney also scored for Spokane (13-9-3). Donovan Buskey made 20 saves for the win.

Sam Steel, Nick Henry and Matt Bradley responded for the Pats (13-12-2), with Henry and Bradley adding two assists a piece for three-point outings. Tyler Brown took the loss, allowing five goals on 21 shots in two periods of work.
