WHL Roundup: Hawryluk leads Wheat Kings to big win

VICTORIA — Vladimir Bobylev had two goals, including one on a penalty shot, and two assists to lead the Victoria Royals past the Vancouver Giants 7-3 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Tyler Soy also scored twice for the Royals (45-16-6), who improved to 8-0-1 in their last nine games. Ethan Price, Jack Walker and Alex Forsberg rounded out the attack.

Ty Ronning, Owen Hardy and Thomas Foster chipped in for Vancouver (23-37-8), which dropped their seventh in a row.

Griffen Outhouser made 27 saves for the win in net as Jake Morrissey turned aside 32-of-39 shots in defeat.

Victoria scored once on two power plays while the Giants were 1 for 3.

WHEAT KINGS 7, WARRIORS 2

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Jayce Hawryluk had two goals and an assist to lead Brandon past the Warriors.

Ivan Provorov also struck twice for the Wheat Kings (42-18-6). John Quenneville scored once and added two assists while Mark Matsuba and Stelio Mattheos rounded out the attack.

Brayden Point and Noah Gregor chipped in for Moose Jaw (33-25-8).

RAIDERS 3, HURRICANES 2

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Reid Gardiner’s power-play goal was the eventual winner as the Raiders edged Lethbridge.

Brendan Guhle and Parker Kelly scored in the first period for Prince Albert (36-21-8).

Cory Millette and Ryley Lindgren found the back of the net for the Hurricanes (43-21-2), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

BLADES 4, ICE 1

SASKATOON — Ryan Graham struck twice as the Blades toppled Kootenay.

Connor Gay and Logan Christensen had the others for Saskatoon (25-36-4).

Zak Zborosky scored in the second period for the Ice (10-50-6), who dropped their 11th in a row.

BRONCOS 5, TIGERS 3

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Jon Martin scored twice and added an assist as Swift Current got past the Tigers.

Glenn Gawdin had a goal and two assists while Kade Jensen and Colby Sissons also chipped in for the Broncos (23-34-8).

Max Gerlach, David Quenneville and Chad Butcher supplied the offence for Medicine Hat (26-35-5), which had gone 5-0-1 in its previous six games.

COUGARS 4, CHIEFS 1

PRINGE GEORGE, B.C. — Brogan O’Brien and Kody McDonald had goals in the third period as the Cougars beat Spokane.

Chase Witala and Brad Morrison also found the back of the net for Prince George (36-27-4).

Dominic Zwerger scored in the first period for the Chiefs (30-26-9).

AMERICANS 5, SILVERTIPS 3

EVERETT, Wash. — Tyler Sandhu had two goals and an assist as Tri-City snapped a three-game skid by toppling the Silvertips.

Jordan Topping, Michael Rasmussen and Morgan Geekie also scored for the Americans (31-31-3).

Matt Fonteyne struck twice with Dario Winkler adding the other for Everett (36-22-7).

THUNDERBIRDS 2, WINTERHAWKS 1

KENT, Wash. — Nolan Volcan scored the winner in the second period as the Thunderbirds edged Portland for their seventh straight victory.

Ethan Bear had a power-play goal in the first period for Seattle (39-23-3).

Rihards Bukarts evened the game at 1-1 just before the midway point of the second for the Winterhawks (33-28-4).

BLAZERS 3, ROCKETS 2

KELOWNA, B.C. — Garrett Pilon scored the winner at 19:21 of the third period as Kamloops slipped past the Rockets.

Collin Shirley, on the power play, and Nick Chyzowski opened the scoring for the Blazers (32-25-9), who won their third straight.

Tomas Soustal and Tyson Baillie responded with power-play goals in the third for Kelowna (44-18-3).
